G: He was at a school party. I think at —— High School. That’s a very liberal place with a concert hall and everything. My brother went there to a party. You know, local bands playing, the usual. He said it was nice. He used to watch people all the time at these shows. He drew very well. You know, I know nothing about art, but what my brother did always made me . . . think and feel. So I guess he was really good at capturing moments, emotions. He mostly drew faces, that was his thing. So I suppose he was observing faces at these parties.

B: Aha.

G: Yeah. So he stood through these awful performances. The place was almost empty by the end of the show, but new people started coming in as if something else was about to happen. So he waited a bit more. And he was right, because suddenly a new band showed up. They weren’t on the bill.

B: Fogtown.

G: I think so, yes. They started playing. Poor kid didn’t hear a thing, obviously. He said he was watching the stage but he couldn’t see the musicians. The place wasn’t well lit, so there were only shadows. He said he felt by the tremor on the floor that the concert had started. Then he was watching the people, their faces. He said something changed about them. After that, he spent weeks drawing these faces, then he showed them to me. Unfortunately, I can’t show them to you because he had them on him when he died, and . . . so I don’t have them anymore. But I saw those pictures. Those faces were as if . . . I don’t know, as if they had been yearning for something, and all of sudden they could have it. They were both sad and happy at the same time. That was the beginning of the party.

B: Mm-hmm.
