"I remember your mother, and I was so sad to hear that she had passed away. She made the most amazing food. I'm looking forward to having that for my guests."
"We've cooked up plenty for your celebration. I hope you enjoy it."
As she walked into the house, leaving Mia, Kate, Evie and Cooper standing on the front porch, they all let out a collective breath.
"I guess it's showtime," Kate said.
"Yeah, and hopefully I don't throw up," Mia said, rubbing her stomach.
The wedding had gone off without a hitch, and they got paid their big bonus. Never had Kate been so relieved about anything in her life.
Of course, it was almost time for her and her daughter to go home, but she was second guessing that. She was starting to fall in love with the B&B, the little town and, quite possibly, Cooper.
Although they hadn't gone out on that official date yet, she felt her self growing closer to him. But now she had to make the decision about whether to go back to her life in Rhode Island and continue building her business or stay at the B&B and start a brand new life.
"Is anyone else as exhausted as I am?" Mia asked as she laid her head back against the chair.
"I just can't believe that I got to meet Lana Blaze! We took so many pictures. Her people said that I can post them after the People magazine article comes out next week," Evie said, scrolling through the photos on her phone.
“I’m glad all of my carpentry held up. They had so many people on the dance floor at one point that I was afraid the whole thing might fall through," Cooper said, laughing.
"You really shouldn't tell people that," Kate said, rolling her eyes.
"I guess I better check my email. I haven't done that in a few days, so I don't know if we have any new guests arriving soon."
"Mom, we're not going back to Rhode Island, are we?" Evie suddenly asked.
Kate didn't know what to say. She hated when her daughter put her on the spot. “Evie, can we talk about this later?"
“I’d kind of like to know the answer to that myself," Cooper said.
“Me too," Mia said from across the room.
Kate paused for a long moment. "I still can't make any long-term promises," she said. She didn't know why she couldn't promise to stay the full six months, but right now she was still undecided. Something was still nagging at her about leaving behind her life in Rhode Island, and she didn't know what it was. It wasn't exactly like she had a boyfriend there or family.
Maybe it was just her independence. Maybe it was that part of her that was used to not having any family to answer or to depend on.
