Evie grabbed the notepad and her mouth dropped open. “Lana Blaze has this kind of money. Mom, we can’t go home now. How cool will it be if I can say I helped plan Lana Blaze’s wedding? It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity!”
“I don’t think I can do this without you, my long lost sister,” Mia said. “And we can split the profits from this fifty-fifty.”
Kate sat down and sucked in a long breath. “We’d need to have some extra structures built out back to accommodate that many people. And possibly a covered pavilion in case we get any helicopters or drones flying over trying to get a shot.”
Mia smiled. “Does this mean y’all will stay until the wedding’s over?”
Kate looked over at her daughter and then back at Mia. She sighed. “I’ll have to give up my apartment…”
“Our apartment sucks anyway, Mom,” Evie said.
She laughed. “That’s pretty accurate. Okay! I’m in! Let’s do this crazy thing.”
Mia screamed and hugged her sister. “This is going to be so fun and also terrifying!”
“Definitely terrifying,” Kate said under her breath.
Kate walked into the tiny gym, a water bottle in one hand and her phone in the other. When she’d asked Mia whether there was a place to work out in town, she hadn’t expected this little hole in the wall to be it. It was one large room with machines covering every square inch, and it was also a virtual ghost town. Didn’t people exercise in Carter’s Hollow?
“Hey there! Welcome. How can I help you?” the perky young woman said from behind the desk.
“I’m just visiting, but I was looking for a place to workout.”
“Fantastic! We have a free two-week special going on, and then it’s ten dollars a month after that.”
“Ten dollars? How do you stay in business?” Kate asked, her mouth hanging open.
“Um, what?” the woman asked, her head cocked to the side. Kate imagined she had a couple of squirrels playing the fiddle inside her brain, so she decided not to press it further.
“Nevermind. Where do I sign up?”
The woman handed her a clipboard and pointed to a chair. Kate sat down and filled out the short form before handing it back in. Finally, she was free to go exercise, and she needed to burn off some excess energy anyway.
Dealing with canceling her lease with her landlord and hiring a moving company to take her things to storage had taken up a couple of days. Thankfully, one of her friends back in Rhode Island had coordinated much of it for her. Of course, she’d have to find a new place to live all over again once she got back home.
