- About the Author
“Thank you for being my biggest supporter. I love you endlessly.”
“I love you more than endlessly.”
“There is nothing more than endlessly.”
“There’s eternity.”
Sam scowled at him. “Do you win every debate, or does it just seem that way?”
His smile was positively lethal. “It just seems that way.”
“Right. Whatever you say, Mr. President.”
Chapter Eight

Sam went to see to her sister, heading for the third-floor guestroom next door to Celia’s. More freaking stairs. She missed the elevator but was determined to get back to normal even if her hip wasn’t quite as determined. She knocked softly on Angela’s door before poking her head in. “Can I come in?”
“Sure.”
With that one word, Sam heard a world of despair from the sister she knew as well as she knew herself—or so she’d thought. She stepped into the room, closed the door and gave her eyes a second to adjust to the murky darkness. She went to sit on the edge of the bed. “It’s almost dinnertime. Can I convince you to join us?”
“I’m not hungry.”
“I know, but the baby is.”
“The baby would be better off not being born into this nightmare.”
Angela’s hopelessness alarmed Sam. “You don’t mean that, Ang.”
“How do you know what I mean?”
“I know you and how much you love your kids, even the one who isn’t here yet.”
“How will I take care of an infant and two little kids alone, Sam? How will I do that while working full time to pay for everything?”
“You will never be alone, and I have news that might ease your mind a little.”
“What news?”
“First of all, Nick and I want to offer you and the kids Ninth Street, to live there as long as you need to. You could sell your place, which would give you a cushion, and live for free in our house. There’s no sense having it sit empty if you could be using it.”
“That’s an amazing offer, even if the thought of moving is so overwhelming, I can’t process it.”
“We’d help you with everything.”
“Thank you for that. It’s very good of you guys to offer that.”
“Our home is your home.”
“You said that was first of all. What’s second of all?”
“Tracy told you that Freddie suggested a GoFundMe for you and the kids?”
“She did.”
“The rest of us think it’s a wonderful idea.”
“The rest of who?”
“Me, Trace, Mike and Nick.”
“Nick thinks it’s a good idea to have people fundraising for the president’s sister-in-law?”
“He said he’d post a link to the GoFundMe from his personal accounts.”
Angela seemed to consider that. “I don’t feel right taking charity.”
“It’s not charity, Ang. People love you, they loved Spence, and they want to help. If our higher profiles make it more successful, then so be it.” She paused before she added, “Trace told me Spencer lost his job. This will solve many of your most pressing problems.”
