- About the Author
Faith took notes as Sam went through the facts of the case.
“The manager of the restaurant where Newell and Diaz worked is a convicted drug dealer who did three years at Jessup and is on probation. His name is Richard Kent. The people at the restaurant knew him as Richard Day. When we stopped by to talk to the staff, he ran from us. We tracked him down, and he’s on his way in now. I thought you might want to watch the interrogation.”
“You thought right, but Sam… Should you be investigating this one?”
“Gonzo is signing the paperwork. My name won’t be on it.”
Faith seemed to give that some thought. “I suppose that could work but be careful. We don’t want to compromise the prosecution.”
“Trust me. That’s the last thing I want.”
Her phone chimed with a text from Haggerty. Found the white packets and S20 pills strewn about in the Whites’ pool house. The mother said she hasn’t been in there since she found him dead. Too painful. Good thing because possibly lethal powder was all over the place. HazMat on the way.
Another one tied to the same batch that had killed Spencer. Good work, she replied to Haggerty. There are probably going to be more. Will let you know.
Standing by.
Sam appreciated the sort of cooperation Haggerty and his CSU team provided on most of her cases.
Gonzo appeared in the doorway. “We’ve got Richard in interview two. Figured you’d want to take the lead.”
“You figured right.” Sam put her hair up in a clip, grabbed her pad, pen and a bottle of water and followed Gonzo to the room.
They were almost there when Detective Cameron Green came running into the pit looking freaked out. “I can’t find Gigi.”
Chapter Twenty-Two

Sam pivoted and walked toward Cam. “What do you mean?”
“I was out all night helping to look for Kent. Gigi texted that she was going home from my place this morning.” His voice was as shaky as his hands. “I texted her a while ago, but she didn’t reply, which is weird because she always replies. I’ve tried calling her a couple of times, and I just went by her place. Her car is out front, but she didn’t answer the door. I don’t have a key.” He ran his hands through his hair as if trying to keep his head from blowing off his neck. “We haven’t gotten there yet, and I don’t know what to do. I feel like something is wrong, because she’d never let me worry this way after everything with Jaycee.”
No one could miss the underlying hysteria in his voice. “Are you able to track her phone?”
“It’s off. It’s never off. I feel like I’m coming out of my skin.”
“What about Jaycee? Are you able to track her phone?”
He shook his head. “I deleted her out of my phone after she slashed my tires.”
