Charley’s excitement was infectious. Annie gave her a keycard. “We’re on the tenth floor, and it’s a million miles away. Be prepared for some serious walking.” They entered the casino, and before Annie had a chance to hit the elevator call button, three young girls approached her.
“Are you Annie Foster?”
Annie smiled. “I am.” She waited patiently for them to find their words.
They clutched one another and giggled. “We love your music. I subscribed to your channel and know most of your songs by heart.” The girl couldn’t have been older than twelve.
“Are you going to the concert tonight?”
All three nodded.
“Did you come into town just to see the concert?”
“Yes, and we’re so excited. We’re here because my mom likes to gamble and my dad is here on business.”
“Perfect timing. Are you all being careful?” The idea of three almost teenagers alone in Vegas made her nervous.
All three nodded. “We’re not allowed to leave the hotel or each other.”
“That’s smart. What are your names?”
“I’m Kenzie. This is Celeste and Mattie. Can we get a picture with you?”
Annie tried to hide her surprise. “Of course.” Charley reached for Kenzie’s phone and told them to pose. She snapped several photos. “What’s your favorite song of mine?”
“Oh, we love them all, but probably ‘Waiting All Day,’” Kenzie said.
“Great. I’ll be sure to say hi tonight. Be safe,” Annie said. She turned to Charley and lifted her eyebrow in surprise. They watched them giggle and run off. “That was incredible.”
“I just witnessed the first of many cool things,” Charley said.
“Come on. Let’s go before my head gets any bigger,” Annie said. They dropped off Charley’s luggage, but before they left the room, Annie’s phone rang. She held up her wait-a-minute finger to Charley, who was standing in the doorway waiting.
“Hello?”
“Hello. This is Deandra Fletcher with Four Twelve Entertainment. I’d like to speak with Annie Foster.”
“This is her.” Annie waited for more information before hanging up. She was on the no-call list, so most people who had her number had it for a reason. She’d never heard of Deandra Fletcher though.
“Hi, Annie. We’ve been paying attention to you the last few weeks and wanted to know if you have representation.”
Annie gripped the phone and waved Charley over to her. “No. I don’t have a manager yet.”
“That’s great news. I’ll be at the concert tonight. Can we get together and talk?”
“I’m glad you’ll be able to see me perform. I’m interested in hearing what you have to say, but I’m afraid I don’t have any time to meet with you at the moment.” Annie was excited, but she knew better than to set up a meeting before knowing who she was meeting with.
