“Are you sure you don’t mind rooming with me? I figure we won’t be in the room a lot.” The rooms were cheap, but Annie needed Charley close. She was homesick, and Charley was a large chunk of home.
“I wouldn’t have it any other way.” Charley checked her watch. “What time do you need to be at rehearsal?”
“Not until five thirty, and since we’re staying in the same place, there’s no set-up time or anything. I just show up and play. Do you want to grab food?”
“I can wear this, right?” Charley was wearing tight jeans, Converse high-tops, a Night Owl T-shirt, and a black jacket with the sleeves rolled up. Her hair was freshly cut and styled. The ninety-minute flight didn’t wrinkle her at all.
“You look great.” Annie couldn’t help but squeeze Charley’s hand.
“Tell me everything. I know we talked on the phone the other night, but tell me how things are going. Like are they footing the bill for everything? Is Bristol nice or icy? What’s it like singing onstage with her?”
Annie couldn’t help but laugh at Charley’s enthusiasm. “It’s been the best time of my life. My popularity is growing. I have over a hundred and twenty thousand followers on YouTube now, and all my social media accounts have blown up. I can’t keep up with it. I get why Bristol has an assistant for just her social media accounts.”
“Are you broadcasting live tonight? Because the venue looks amazing. Oh. What are you wearing?”
They were trying to cram two weeks of information into a ten-minute limo drive. “I need to check with Caesars, but if I can livestream, I will. As far as what I’m wearing, I’m going with a little black dress I found this morning. It’s gorgeous and fits me like a glove.”
“I’m sure you’re going to be a knockout. I can’t wait to hear you. I can’t wait to see you and Bristol together. The posts online have been so amazing. You both sound great.”
“We really do, and I’m not just saying that. It’s nice onstage chemistry.”
Charley elbowed her playfully. “Oh yeah? Chemistry?”
Annie couldn’t stop the blush that feathered across her cheeks. “I mean, she’s perfect. She’s talented, smart, funny, but she’s also kind of sad.”
“What do you mean? She seems like she has her shit together. She has the world at her fingertips.”
“I think that’s the problem.” Annie didn’t want to gossip about Bristol. She was getting to know her more and more day by day. Their relationship was so fragile, and Annie didn’t want to soil it by talking about her. “Anyway. We’re here. You’re going to love it.”
“I haven’t been to Vegas in years.”
