whatever you can grab out of life you can either do your best to work hard and earn what you can and if you have an education if you have a college degree or if you have some set of special skills then you have more of a chance to get something for yourself for instance you might get into running scams you might defraud insurance companies for example here in town there is no insurance company that has ever been willing to open an agency to sell car insurance or motorcycle insurance because what we have down here is what we call the crastolino because in dialect crastole is the word for plates and when they get broken when you drop plates on the floor or break them then it’s a crastolino which is the sound of breaking glass and we use crastolino to refer to false accident reports and basically you declare that you had a crash and you go see your friend who has a body shop and maybe he has a car door lying around that’s all dented and smashed in and it’s from the same model as your car except maybe yours is black and this door is white but that’s not a problem because he paints it black and then he takes off your door and he installs the smashed up door then you take pictures and send them in with the accident report and the insurance company sends you a check and your friend switches out the car door again

and there’s a category of lawyers some of them are even my age who get just good enough grades to get their degree and once they have a law degree then they launch themselves into this kind of business that is they become civil law attorneys they take cases involving car crashes and they submit false reports to the insurance companies where I come from submitting fake accident reports is pretty much like a student who needs money in a city like Rome or maybe London and he looks around and finds a café and works two or three days as a waiter it’s just as a last resort when you’re completely out of money and you don’t know where to turn then what happens you’re penniless you’re walking down the street you spot a pizzeria or a bar with a help wanted sign you walk in you apply for the job you work for two days or three days you make a hundred bucks and that takes care of things for two weeks but not down here there’s no bar much less a help wanted sign so when there’re no jobs what you do is you resort to the crastolino this is something that down here is practically considered legitimate because there’s no violence involved nobody gets killed or anything like that
