back then the town was surrounded by something like two hundred carabinieri every day but still there were killings and the things that had always happened kept on happening the young men the muschilli keep driving around in their cars with their cell phones so they call ahead and warn the other car carrying the hit squad they tell them which route is safe and where there’s a roadblock it has even happened more than once that there’s been a killing less than a kilometer from a carabinieri roadblock for example let’s say that right here is this road the roadblock’s over here the guy they’re supposed to kill is right here two guys drive along this road but they see the carabinieri and they know you can’t get through here but there’s another road so two other guys go that way and they see that there’s no problem getting through on the other road so they make a phone call and the car with the hit crew follows them down the other road and once they get where they need to go they get out and kill who they’re supposed to kill and as soon as they’ve done the job another car pulls up to take the weapons a car driven by people who are above suspicion and they drive off with the guns and nobody knows a thing

there were lots of murders during that period despite the fact that the town was pretty much under siege from the police and the carabinieri there was a time when you’d leave your house and drive down the road and literally every hundred yards there was a roadblock a checkpoint the Carabinieri and the police were constantly stopping you but still even in the midst of all that the clans still managed to kill whoever they wanted they killed one young guy just twenty-five years old for no reason other than that he worked at a quarry run by a rival clan and the reason they killed him was the guys from the rival clan were barricaded in their house because one of their people had been killed and they were afraid to leave the house so their enemies couldn’t get to them and to send the signal they killed this guy who had nothing to do with what was going on he just worked as a watchman at the quarry but the rival group murdered him to send a message lots of others were killed for the same reason
