- Meet Melissa
She couldn’t help but chuckle. What kind of girl did he think she was? She couldn’t resist tossing another barb. “Did I mention it’s with two guys? There’ll probably be some nakedness involved.” She giggled as she walked away to deliver the drinks.
An hour later, the bar was packed, but Tracey still had free tables. She was fit to be tied over Diesel’s stare downs and thrilled when Crow Burke walked in with Tex and Court Sharpe, three big-tipping Dark Knights.
“Hey, guys. How’re you doing tonight?”
“Great, Trace. You?” Tex asked.
“You sure are lookin’ fine.” Crow raked his eyes down her body.
Tex elbowed him, giving him a chiding glare.
It was all she could do not to roll her eyes. Like she needed another babysitter? “I’ve got a table with your name on it right over there.” She pointed in the direction of an empty table.
“You know we love you, Trace, but I think we’ll sit at one of Dixie’s tables tonight.” Tex pushed a tattooed hand through his thick dark hair. “Diesel chews me out every time I flirt with you.”
Furious, she planted her hand on her hip. “You’re afraid of Diesel? Seriously? Aren’t Dark Knights supposed to have each other’s backs?”
“That’s exactly why we’re going to sit by Dix.” Tex nudged Crow. “Let’s go.”
She looked at Court, the oldest of the three men.
“Sorry, Trace, but you know those two can’t help but get themselves in trouble.”
Anger simmered inside her as Court walked away, and she stormed over to the register where Dixie was ringing up a bill.
“Hey, girl.” Dixie glanced at her as she punched in an order. “Whoa. What’s got your panties in a twist?”
“Tex just told me that Diesel gave him crap for flirting with me. Why is Diesel doing that? It’s like he wants me to quit. I mean Tex. Really? Like he’s some kind of threat to my safety?”
Dixie parked her hip against the counter, giving Tracey a once-over as she crossed her arms. “You look hot tonight.”
Tracey had always been petite, but now that her life was stable and she was happy, she’d put on a few pounds, and thanks to the martial arts classes she took at her gym, she even had some semblance of curves. It had only taken her close to twenty-six years to develop them. But she was onto Dixie’s attempt to distract her with a compliment. “Compared to you, I look like a teenage boy with boobs, but you’re not answering my question, Dix.”
