- Meet Melissa
Red smiled. “Let’s just say I trusted my instincts, and it paid off. Look at our girl over there.” Everyone looked across the yard at Tracey. She and Roni were dancing with Lincoln and Lila in their arms. “Tracey has come out of her shell, and thanks to you, she’s found her family. And I think you, my big, badass boy, are slowly coming out of your shell, and maybe you’ve finally found your missing piece, too. That’s a beautiful thing.”
Diesel was surprised to find he was getting a little choked up.
“Hell yeah, it is,” Bullet said. “Not to mention, you saved me a boatload of painful interviews.”
“You would’ve been wasting your time anyway.” Bones clapped a hand on Diesel’s shoulder, then quickly removed it. “Nobody can replace the man who won out over Peaceful Harbor’s most eligible bachelor.”
“Are you talking about Rhys?” Jace asked. “The guy who was eyeing my girl at the bachelor auction?” Dixie had coordinated the last charity bachelor auction, and she’d put herself up on the auction block.
Bones laughed. “I forgot about that.”
“Bikers two. Rhys zero. Am I right, big man?” Jace held up his fist and knuckle bumped Diesel.
“You paid thousands of dollars to win our sister in that auction,” Bear reminded him.
Jace smirked. “I’d’ve paid twice that amount.”
“I’m sure you would have. Now, how about sharing my grandbaby?” Red reached for Tallulah, but Jace snuck in another kiss on the baby’s cheek first.
“Diesel! Diesel! Diesel!” Kennedy ran over in her frilly white dress and denim vest, her dark hair bouncing around her face. “It’s time for cake, and Mom said I can sit with my boyfriends.”
“I think you mean boyfriend, sweetheart,” Bullet corrected her.
“Nope! I’m in love with a biker and a cowboy, and Mama said that’s okay while I’m young. So I’m never gonna get old!”
Everyone laughed.
“Tru and Gemma are in for years of trouble,” Bear said.
“That’s okay, Uncle Be-ah. Daddy said some days me and Linc are so much trouble we could give Mama gray hair. But Nana Red said you were bigger trouble than we could ever be, and her hair’s still red! Bye!” Kennedy tugged Diesel toward the long table on the other side of the yard, where the girls were setting out plates for the cake. “Nick! C’mere! Cake time!” She waved the brawny cowboy over.
Diesel and Nick exchanged a head shake, but there was nothing they wouldn’t do for the sweet little filly who had them wrapped around her finger.
As everyone gathered around the table while the kids took their seats, Diesel eyed Tracey standing with Josie a few feet away and motioned for her to come to his side.
Tracey glanced at Kennedy and shook her head.
He mouthed, Get your hot little ass over here.
