  45. EPILOGUE

Skye smiled. “I got a little further. Sunstar is owned by two corporations, each owned by two different companies. I need to look at the corporate filings, see who’s listed on the board of directors, see if I can find a name or names that overlap. It’s going to take some time.”

“In other words, the actual ownership of the land is buried.”

“Exactly.”

“Which strengthens our theory that Henson works for someone else.”

She took a sip of coffee and glanced up at him over her shoulder. “I’m calling Zoey Rosen. We’ll see what she can find out. We’ve talked in the office a couple of times, but I’ve never asked for her help. Conn swears she’s a miracle worker.”

Zoe was a recent addition to the Nighthawk crew, a digital forensics expert. She had majored in computer science at the University of Colorado, was working as a computer analyst when Conn hired her. According to office gossip, Zoe had been fascinated with computers, gaming, and the Internet all her life and could find out just about anything—as long as no one asked how she did it.

“She’s helped me a few times,” Edge said. “Computer searches aren’t my long suit.”

Skye hid a grin. “I found out what your long suit is last night.”

Edge laughed. “It’s still early. We could go back to bed for a while.”

She did smile then. “Tempting, but we have work to do—which you very well know.”

He nodded, sipped his coffee. “I do.” Edge padded off to shower and dress, and Skye phoned Zoe Rosen.

“Skye. Nice to hear from you. We still need to make time for lunch one day soon.”

“We sure do,” Skye said.

Zoey was a petite woman, cute and spunky, with a pixie face and short blond hair. Zoe’s friend, Ellie Bowman, a PI with Nighthawk, now married to Edge’s brother Kade, had told Skye that Zoe’s nickname in college was Tinkerbelle. She looked the part.

“So what can I do for you?” Zoe asked.

“I’m investigating a guy named Daniel Henson. I’m hoping you can help.” Skye filled Zoe in on Henson, the Children of the Sun, the DEA raid, and the missing woman, Lila Ramirez. She mentioned there could be other women with Henson and his men, but it was primarily Lila they were hoping to help.

“I dug around a little this morning,” Skye said, then relayed the information she’d come up with on the Sunstar Corporation.

“A lot of stuff has been written about Daniel Henson,” Skye continued. “Father deceased, no siblings, but father and son were both preachers. Nothing I could find that connects Daniel with drugs. The raid put him on the run. With the kind of money involved, there’s a good chance he’s setting up shop somewhere else.”
