- EPILOGUE
“When are you planning to see him? I know he’s traveling. Are you meeting him in New Mexico?”
Edge’s pulse spiked again. He managed to smile. “He’s sending us the details, but sooner or later we’ll be in touch.”
“Well, tell him to call his mama as soon as he gets the chance.”
“Will do,” Edge said, and they left the house.
Back in the truck, they clicked their seat belts in place, and Edge fired the engine.
“New Mexico,” Skye said. “You think Beekman could be meeting Henson?”
“Or they could be traveling together.” Edge flashed a satisfied smile. “I found Mrs. Beekman’s cell phone. She got a text from Rollie a couple of days ago.”
Skye’s green eyes widened. “You got Beekman’s cell number?”
“Yup. He was in Kansas when he sent the text two days ago, but he was getting ready to leave. With any luck we can track him all the way to New Mexico.”
“That’s great news!” She cut him a sideways glance. “Of course, Henson might be somewhere else entirely.”
“Maybe. But Rollie’s text said, ‘Will call when we get there.’ We. He might be referring to Stella, but his mother didn’t mention her, and I didn’t get the impression these guys consider a woman worth including in their business. If Beekman was one of Henson’s top men, good chance they’re heading someplace together.”
“True,” Skye said. “And it’s the only viable lead we’ve got.” Her eyes met his. “What if Mama Beekman calls Rollie and tells him two of his friends dropped by to say hello? It might put him on alert and blow all his New Mexico plans to hell.”
“We had nothing before. It’s a chance we had to take.”

CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO
THEY MADE A STOP AT A BURGER KING ON THE WAY BACK TO DENVER and ate on the road.
“I’m surprised Beekman isn’t using a disposable phone,” Skye said, plucking a French fry out of the bag and popping it into her mouth. The salty taste elicited a moan.
“At this point, there’s no reason he’d be worried,” Edge said. “Rollie’s served his time in prison. He’s got no new warrants, and he’s not even using his real name.”
“So he feels pretty safe.”
He nodded. “At least for the moment.”
As soon as they got back to Nighthawk, Skye headed straight for Zoe’s office, Edge right behind her. Zoe was on the phone when they walked in. She must have read something in Skye’s face because she ended the call and sat up straighter in her chair.
“What is it?”
Skye smiled. “We got Rolland Beekman’s cell phone number.”
“Wow, that’s great. Why don’t we find out where he is?”
