“You still have a legacy, Dad. It’s just not the one you envisioned. Cecilia loves Ganas and she’ll work to make it something bigger than either of us probably could, you just have to let her. I have to go,” I told him as I pulled into the garage. I ended the call and powered off the car, breathing easier. But then a little pained sound came from the passenger side, and my whole body responded to that distress. The only thing that mattered was sitting next to me. I came around the other side, opened the door and bent to kiss my woman on the lips. She fluttered her eyes open and gave me a sweet little smile.
“Hey,” I choked out. I knew exactly where I needed to be.
Chapter Nineteen
Alba
“Why do you keep carrying me?” I muttered testily, even as I pressed my face tighter to his chest. He hadn’t let my feet touch the ground yet. Not in the parking lot, not in the elevator.
“Because you passed out like an hour ago,” he huffed, like my questions were aggravating him, but I could hear the tension in his voice. “I’m going to put you down to open our door but, Alba, I don’t want you getting on that laptop. You need to rest.”
“Fine.” I wanted to fight him, but my legs felt like wet noodles and I really needed to lie down. He very carefully lowered me until I was upright but kept a strong arm around my waist as he opened the door.
“Our door,” I mumbled, and blinked up at him. “I like that.”
He made a pained sound and shook his head, which probably meant something, but I was way too out of it to figure it out. “Come on, let’s get you into bed, that’s what the paramedic said you needed to do, and don’t think I won’t take your ass to the ER if you don’t comply.”
“Fine, I’ll get into bed. You’re so fucking bossy,” I whined and he grumbled. “But I’m all sticky. I need a shower.” My clothes were stuck to my body from the sweating and then getting in the AC and I had to look like a clown with the makeup melted on my face. “I probably look terrible.”
We were walking slowly down the hallway, but he stopped after I said that and looked down at me. His eyes blazed with something that wasn’t anger, or even the stoic concern he’d been giving off since we left the set—but whatever it was, it was fierce.
