“Thank you.” She was one of like three people who worked for the show who I didn’t want to punch in the face in that moment.

“Let me know how she gets on and don’t worry about any of this, Tina and I will handle everything.” I nodded tightly as she helped me with the door before running back to the tents where the rest of the crew were regrouping.

“I knew I should’ve kept you home, baby. You scared the shit out of me.” Alba tried to smile at me, but she looked out of it. By the time I got her in the car and strapped her in she was coming back to herself.

“What happened?” she asked as I pulled us out of the parking lot.

“You passed out because Chase is an asshole,” I said tightly, mad at Chase, at myself, at every person in Alba’s life that made her believe that she had to do this to herself. Literally run herself into the ground.

“What?” She tried to open her eyes and winced, then closed them like the light hurt them. “But we didn’t finish filming.” She sounded so dazed and it was freaking me the fuck out.

“It’s okay. Set is closed for a few days. We can’t film if you have heat exhaustion.” I stretched my hand to squeeze hers, relieved to find it warmer than before. “Let me take care of you, baby. Please.” I would beg if I had to. She looked so fucking tired. Like the weight of the world was on her chest, and I wanted to take it all from her. Take off every brick she carried on her back and smash them into a million pieces.

“I need to...” Her hand slipped from mine and she started moving in her seat, like she was looking for something.

“I already texted Julia,” I said in an attempt to calm her down. “She’ll go take the videos from that client you wanted. And I have your bag in the back. When I get you in bed I’ll go to the drug store and get you an extra-large pack of Doritos to wash down with the electrolytes I’m going to force-feed you all night.” She made a feeble sound that I thought was her attempt at a laugh but I was not joking. I wasn’t letting her out of my sight or a bed until she’d had twelve uninterrupted hours of sleep. She smiled with her eyes closed, then after a long moment gave me a sideways glance.

“I’m having a really bad day, Theo.” Her eyes filled with tears, then two fat ones rolled down her cheeks. My heart felt like it was being torn from my chest.

“Please let me make it better for you,” I pleaded hoarsely.
