“Are you always going to be this stubborn?”

“Fuck yes. I can’t believe you even have to ask me that.”

He chuckles, leaning down to dot a line of kisses along my jaw. “Please say you’ll be my girlfriend, Sadie.”

“Well, since you asked so nicely.” I turn my head, capturing his mouth with mine, very glad I took the time to brush my teeth during my low-key anxiety attack in the bathroom.

Jack pulls away long before I want him to. “I could do this all day, but if I don’t stop kissing you now, we’re going to end up back in that bed, and I don’t think we’ll be coming out for the rest of the day.”

I rise up on my toes so I can nibble his neck. “Is that a problem for you?”

He wraps his arms around my waist, lifting me off the ground and carrying me over to the door. “No. But we’ve got a sink full of dishes, and I’m mostly sure you have orders you need to fulfill.”

I wiggle out of his arms on the landing, not trusting anyone to carry me down a flight of stairs, no matter how perfect he seems. “Why do you have to be all practical and logical about things?”

“I don’t want to distract you from your blossoming business, rosebud.”

“Did you just call me rosebud?” Coffee is calling, so I head immediately for the espresso machine as soon as I reach the kitchen. “I think I’m going to have to veto that nickname.”

Jack bumps his hip into mine, nudging me out of the way of the caffeine, prepping the ingredients way faster than I would’ve been able to. “This from the woman who calls me everything from Jack Be Nimble to Jack-o’-Lantern.”

I hop up onto the counter next to him, reaching into the cabinet for two mugs, relishing this easy morning choreography between us. “Yes, but it’s funny when I do it.”

Jack rolls his eyes, turning a knob on the machine and watching the espresso drip into my mug. “Whatever you say, snapdragon.”

“Oh god. I’ve created a monster.” I lean over and plant a soft kiss on his lips. “Good thing you know your way around an espresso machine, Jack of Hearts.”

He carefully pours steamed milk over my espresso, handing me a perfect latte and pairing it with another kiss. “I know my way around a lot of things, dandelion.”

“Technically that’s an herb, not a flower.”

“Yeah, yeah.” He turns his attention back to the coffee, making a latte for himself too.
