  30. About the Author

“Nah, I’m good.” Big shoved her hair back, his gloved hand slick against her face, and gave her head a little push. “Trying to scratch me, huh? That seem like a good idea to you?”

She didn’t say anything—what was the point?—but her mind was working overtime, trying to think of who she knew, who she’d left on the list Cade had given her, who had tattoos like that.

It had to be Jack.

She’d never seen him without a shirt, but she’d seen the ink on his forearm and hand a hundred times, thick black lines and splashes of color. They suited him, suited the vibe he gave off, edgy and polished at the same time. Jack was a sadist, and somehow the tattoos fit that as well, evidence of the close personal relationship he had with pain.

“Nothing to say now, bitch?” he jeered, and pulled a knife out of his boot. She shrank back, but one of them was already behind her, preventing her escape, and Big grabbed her wrists and yanking them forward.

“Hold her the fuck still, or I’ll nick an artery and she’ll bleed out before we get what we came for,” he ordered, and hard hands grabbed her arms.

Cade’s hands. She recognized the callouses on his palms and the faint scent of peppermint. She tried to look at his face, but he was behind her, straddling the bench she sat on, and her hair was in the way.

There was a whisper of steel as Big cut through the tape holding her wrists together. With Cade still holding her arms, Big ripped it off, dragging a muffled cry from her as it took skin and hair with it. It hurt enough to bring tears to her eyes, and when she could see again, Big was buckling leather cuffs around her wrists.

There was another slicing sound, and she looked down to see Tex on his knees next to her, freeing her feet. He ripped the tape off quickly, bringing a flood of fresh tears. She battled them back as soft leather was wrapped around her ankles.

“Ready?” Cade asked.

“Go,” Big replied, and Cade looped his hands under her armpits and jerked her backward until her back hit what felt like the straight back of a dining room chair. She looked down and saw she was sitting on a weight bench, lightly padded and covered with black vinyl, the adjustable portion upright to force her back straight.
