  30. About the Author

Cade turned at the door. “I’ll let you know.”

“Nick? Cade?”

A sleepy-eyed Rebecca walked out of the bedroom, dwarfed in her hotel robe. She rubbed her face, smearing the eyeliner that was all that remained of her makeup. She looked freshly scrubbed and charmingly debauched all at once. “What’s wrong?”

“Nothing’s wrong,” Cade assured her as she drifted across the room. Nick extended a hand and she slipped hers into it, nestling into the curve of his body.

She leaned her head on Nick’s chest, her dark hair stark against the bright white of his robe. She sent Cade a sleepy smile. “I thought you were staying.”

Cade smiled back, slow and wicked, and hoped he could pull it off. “Looking for another round, darlin’?”

Her cheeks went adorably pink. “I think I’m going to need a while to recover from the last one,” she admitted, and both men laughed. “But you don’t have to go.”

“I’d love to stay,” he said, and it was only half a lie. “But Olivia texted me that she needs a place to crash tonight. I need to check on her.”

Rebecca straightened with a frown. “What happened?”

“She left Kyle,” Cade began.

“Is she all right? Did he do anything? Does she need anything? What happened?”

“Right now, all I know is she said she needs a place to stay tonight.” Cade’s gaze met Nick’s over Rebecca’s head in a moment of shared amusement. “I’ll tell her to call you tomorrow, all right?”

“All right.” Rebecca hesitated slightly, then stepped away from Nick, crossing the short distance to stand in front of Cade. She looked up at him, all big gray eyes and glowing skin. “Can I give you a hug?”

If there was a man who could hold out against that, it wasn’t Cade. “Of course you can.”

She went up on her toes, wrapping her arms around his shoulders as Cade bent his knees to meet her halfway. “Tell her how you feel,” she whispered, and he jerked in surprise. Her arms tightened, keeping him close. “Tell her,” she said again, and Cade closed his eyes.

Rebecca clung for a heartbeat more, staying on her toes to press a kiss to his cheek. Then she dropped to her heels and stepped back into the circle of Nick’s arms.

“Drive safe,” Nick said quietly, and Cade nodded.

“I will.” The knob turned silently under his hand, the door swinging open to the dimly lit hallway beyond. He took a step forward, into that void.

“Cade.”

He glanced back over his shoulder at Rebecca’s call.

“Thank you,” she said simply.

He nodded, not trusting himself to speak, then stepped into the darkened hall, the door closing behind him with a click.
