He took Marshall out around the waist, peddled forward, and slammed him into the cool, bright water of the Mattucci pool.
Chapter 5
This could not be happening.
No. Just…
No.
York was not in the water, wrestling with renowned actor Winchester Marshall, having tackled the poor man in a flat out run across the pool deck.
Hadn’t landed with a cannonball splash, fully clothed into the crystalline waters, only to surface and grab the man around the neck, pulling him up—at least he wasn’t drowning him.
Still — “York!”
Another shout, behind her, and another splash, water darkening the cobblestones as a man joined the fracas in the pool.
Not Roy, because he ran to the edge wearing—a sling? —shouting at York. Who was now kicking away the second man in the water, losing a battle with Winchester, who had reached up, got a hand between York’s arm bar and his neck, started shouting.
Then another splash and suddenly Ziggy—where had she come from—was in the water, launching herself onto the back of the second man.
Lincoln Cash ran to the edge now, shouting and oh, RJ got it.
The second man was one of Win’s bodyguards, usually making themselves invisible in the shadows.
“York!” She joined Lincoln and Roy, shouting into the fracas. “Let him go!”
York ignored her, clearly, because he dragged Winchester back, despite the man’s bulk, to the stairs, then sat down, the man still in his grip.
But Win got a hand up and smacked York, hard, in the face.
York grunted, but she knew her fiancé.
It would take more than that for Win to shake loose.
Ziggy, meanwhile, had a spider grip on the bodyguard. RJ had seen him before, in France, dark hair, lean and tough. Lake—yeah, that was his name.
Now Lake jerked back in the water and buried Ziggy.
Oh—! “Ziggy!”
She should go in. But what—she wasn’t the best swimmer. And—
Ziggy broke free, surfaced and bounced away, breathing hard, her dark hair in wet clumps around her face.
Lake also surfaced, rounding on her, then shooting a glance at York.
Win, the champ, held up his hand, his grip firmly on York’s arm, working himself free.
“York! Let. Him. Go!” RJ ran to the edge of the stairs. “What are you doing?”
Win yanked free of York’s grip, pushed away and rounded on him, his eyes dark. “What the —”
He left off the last word, but there was no acting in his fury. He stood, waist deep in the water, his fists balled, breathing hard.
And then everything went quiet as all eyes focused on York.
He hoisted himself up, his wet clothes clinging to his body, glared at Win, then turned and sloshed out of the pool.
Didn’t even look at RJ as he stalked away.
Where was he going?
