take a deep breath. some things just need time. maybe a little, maybe a lot. but not forever. i promise, you will not wait forever.
if you’re the one
waiting for me
at the end of this,
i’ll run to you
with open arms.
but if it’s
somebody else,
or nobody at all,
i’ll run towards
the end anyway.
and i’d like to think
that if we never speak again,
one day you’ll look back on me fondly
as somebody who didn’t fear the future
when they pictured you by their side.
i’d like to think
you’ll remember me
as somebody who loved you
the best they could,
even if it wasn’t always what
you wanted or needed.
i’d like to think
you’ll remember me
as somebody you could
have spent your life with,
if only the timing had been right.
if only we’d worked for it
just a little bit
harder.
it’s interesting to see where the pieces fall, how they end up connecting, often in ways you never saw coming.
you are thinking about this now as you stir your morning coffee. all the things that happened to bring you here, standing in your little kitchen. you wonder how it could be different. who might you be if you’d said yes instead of no that one time, or the other way around? who could you have become if you’d stayed with them, or never been with them in the first place? who would you have loved otherwise, if at all? what hobbies would you have picked up, what books would you have read, where would you have gone?
you take a sip, letting the flavor wash over your tongue. it’s no good thinking about it now, of course. the decisions have been made already, perhaps long before you were born, if you believe in things like destiny or fate.
it’s a curious thing to consider, isn’t it? how maybe there was a path already mapped out for you, and you’ve blindly been following it your whole life. in some instances, that’s just about the worst thing in the world to think about. it’s almost nauseating how horrifying it is.
but in other instances, like today, as you drink your coffee, it is a sweet, gentle comfort to believe that somehow, all will turn out as it should, and that you are exactly where you need to be.
justice
i know that
anger burns in you,
but you cannot
let it consume you.
trust that those
who have wronged you
will pay the price
for their cruelty.
justice
always finds its way
to the ones
who deserve it.
you knew who i was from the beginning.
i told you i would always put myself first,
and i never once faltered,
and you loved that about me, didn’t you?
loved how i wasn’t needy,
loved how i could make my own decisions,
loved how i was headstrong and determined
and unafraid to go after what i wanted.
but now you hate me for it.
