“Makes sense in a cockamamy kind of way. Actually it’s better than anything the rest of us came up with,” Jack said, clapping Dennis on the back. Dennis beamed his pleasure.
Maggie raised her hand. Everyone groaned, knowing she was going to shoot down Dennis’s idea. “Whoa! Whoa! Stop looking at me like that. I was just going to say that maybe we need to beat the Lobos to it and take out the Scorpions ourselves. We aren’t the JV team here.” Maggie held up her hand again, which meant she had another thought. “It would only work if we are one hundred percent sure that all the Scorpions are in Lizzie’s house. And . . . and we get Harry’s friends to help us. Those guys won’t have a prayer of getting away.”
“So you’re saying that we, as in all of us here in this room plus Harry’s friends, raid Lizzie’s house while Avery and his people take out Meadows at Mr. Hershel’s house. Do I have that right, Maggie?” Charles asked.
“You absolutely have that right, Charles,” Maggie said with a whoop of joy. “And man, do I ever have the perfect punishment for that gang of cruds!”

Chapter 14
Alonzo Zuma Santiago cursed first in Spanish, then in English as he watched Lizzie Fox climb back into her car. He continued to curse, making up new words, each one filthier than the one before. He stopped his vitriolic tirade to glare at Miggy. “You spooked her. She must have seen you at the window! Now she’s going to call the cops, and here we sit. Say something, damn it!”
“I wasn’t standing in the window, and she did not see me. The missus wasn’t spooked either. I could see her clearly. She got a box out of the trunk and was going to bring it into the house. I saw her balance it on her knee when her cell phone rang. Whoever called her gave her some news she didn’t like. I thought she was going to cry. I think it was something bad she was hearing. She tossed the box onto the passenger seat, got behind the wheel, and peeled out. It was probably the hospital calling her back. Maybe her husband died. I don’t know. What I do know is that she did not see me, so knock it off, Al. I’m getting sick and tired of your blaming me for everything. You want me gone, just say so, and I’m outta here.”
“You know what, Mig. Sometimes you act like a prissy little girl. If you say you didn’t spook her, then that’s good enough for me. Know this, pal. If the police show up, I will kill you. We can’t stay here forever. The next time she shows up, she will come into the house.”
