Second, you must accept God’s gift of love. The entire message of this book has been that God loves you—He always has and He always will. But it’s not enough to say, “Great to hear,” and walk away. To know about God’s love and not accept it changes nothing in your life. A gift that you do not receive is of no value. God has paid the price for your sin, and eternal life is now available to you; but you must receive it!

At this very moment, Christ stands at the door of your heart and waits for you to invite Him in: “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in” (Revelation 3:20; italics added).

Finally, ask God to forgive your sin, and invite Christ into your heart. Tell Him that you want the forgiveness that only He can give. Here is a simple suggestion for your prayer:

Dear God,

I know I am a sinner. I need Your forgiveness. I freely lay all my sin before You, and I know that because of what Your Son did for me, my sins will be separated from me as far as the East is from the West. Lord Jesus Christ, I ask You to come into my heart and life. I accept You as my Savior and my only hope of heaven. Only You can make me pure and clean, and I ask You to do that. I love You, Lord, and I give You my life. Thank You for hearing my prayer. Amen.

That’s all it takes. Own your sin, disown it through laying it before Christ, and determine to follow the One who loves you perfectly.
