She shook her head slowly, but hope bloomed across her face. “Don’t be stupid. I’m not asking you to choose.”
I slipped my arm around her waist, pulling her closer. “I know, and I’m choosing anyway. I’ll always choose you. I love you, Em.”
That tiny smile bloomed into a full grin. “I love you too.”
She barely got the words out before I took her mouth again, uncaring that the entire nation was probably watching us. Let them watch. I’d missed my girl.
A whistle blew from the field, and I released her to whisper in her ear. “After the game, once we’re home, I want you wearing only the jersey and the earrings.”
I pulled back, gratified to see the wicked gleam in her eyes as she tilted her head, sending the stars tumbling against each other.
“Why the earrings?”
“I’ve been obsessed with these earrings since I met you. Almost as much as the ugly sweats.”
A laugh burst out of her, and she pulled my head down for a hard kiss. “Go kick some ass. I’ll see you after the game.”
I backed away while I still had the willpower to do so. “You’ll stay?”
“I’ll stay. You and me, right?”
“You and me.” I couldn’t stop the massive smile as I turned back to my team. With my girl here watching, I intended to play the best game of my life.
Around us, the crowd burst into applause as I raced down the stairs. Soren winked at me as he clapped Parker on the back, and I ignored the kiss he blew to Nadia. I grabbed my helmet and joined my guys, everything in me aligned for the first time all semester. Maybe for the first time in my life.
I used to play for myself—for my own glory, my own needs—but now I played for her too. And I wouldn’t lose.
