  21. ABOUT THE AUTHOR

The week in Hawaii with Jade should get me out of my funk, maybe I could even lose my virginity there. No ties to hold me back and no reason to be embarrassed with someone I’ll never see again. But Kane, he must live here. “You said you’re here every Saturday, right?”

He nods, already knowing I’m about to turn him down. His face darkens into something more sinister as he awaits the rejection. “I’ll make sure to find you next time.” I flirt, placing my hand on his concrete chest.

Jade interrupts us, pulling me to the side. “Don’t kill me.” She pouts, throwing her hands on my shoulders to steady herself. But I’m not in much better shape, I’m swaying just from breathing.

“Why would I hate you?” I ask, but look past her at Kane, who is glaring at me with the most lustful, heated expression.

She looks back to the bar, “I’m going home with him.”

“What about Blade?”

She shrugs, “I’ll get him next Saturday, apparently they’re regulars.”

“Same.” I tell her, “We’ll come back.” It’s not like I was expecting a slumber party with her, but we could all go back to my place. Who am I kidding? I’m all bark and no bite, I was never going to go home with anyone. “Go!” I smile, but it’s crooked from the drunken blood running through my veins. “I’ll be fine.”

“Uber?” She suggests, her eyes lazy.

I shake my head, “Don’t want to get carsick. I’ll walk, it’s just like a few minutes.”

When Jade makes her exit, I walk over to tell the guy’s goodnight, but Kane pulls me in close. “Come home with me.” He requests.

“Maybe next time,” I tease, pulling my hand down the front of his shirt to feel the marble like abs. A token to go home and touch myself to.

“Fine,” he doesn’t protest, like a true gentleman. “But I’ll see you later, alright Mace?”

I kiss the corner of his mouth with drunken lips. “It’s Macey.” I repeat before walking off through the crowd of people.

The cool night air hits my face, reminding me how drunk I am. But as I stumble home, with my heels dangling from my hands, a stupid Cheshire grin stays on my face.

II. Home

PART 2

HOME

Comfort, the familiar scent of home. It’s normally such a good feeling coming here, but I’m drunk and alone and everywhere I look I see Dante. Like the stupid painting he chose from downtown that still sits above the dining room table.

I’ll never understand how people can cheat. How could he dip his dick into someone else, and then come home to kiss me? The thought makes me want to hurl.
