Eden’s heart jolted. If they left this room, she’d have to go home, and that was the last thing she wanted. “Where do you want to go?”

“Get something to eat?”

She made a face. “What’s your obsession with eating?”

He frowned and the Scottish doctor resurfaced. “When was the last time you ate?”

“I don’t know…”

“Tell me.”

Eden tried to think. She’d gotten an almond latte on the way over here. Last night she’d… been drunk?

“So, you haven’t eaten.” Willow swung his big feet onto the floor and stood. “Come on. We’re going to Mac’s.”

“What’s Mac’s?”

“A pub you’re gonna like.” He held out a big, freckled hand. “Come on.”

“Your shirt’s still undone. And you’re holding a used condom.”

Willow threw the rubber into a small wicker basket beside the desk. It went straight in. He turned to look at her, his eyes shining.

“That was pretty good,” she admitted.

“Fuck yeah, it was. Now come on.”

“I’m not dressed for the pub!”

“You DJ in a wedding dress.”

“Touché.” Eden got to her feet and found herself as unsteady as a baby lamb. “I might need a second…”

Willow wrapped an arm around her waist. “Don’t worry, lass. I’ll take care of you.”

Eden hated how much she loved his Scottish accent.

Mac’s was a tiny hole-in-the-wall pub. It reminded Eden of the places she’d hung out in Oxford while her parents visited her brother at university. She and Willow sat in an oxblood leather booth, looking strangely suited to their décor in their faux, olden day clothes.

“Want a drink?”

Eden scanned the racks of liquor behind the bar. “Absinthe. On ice.”

“Back in a sec.”

She tapped the table while he was gone, trying to remember the bassline to Edgar Winter’s ‘Tobacco Road.’ She stopped when Willow returned with their drinks, and he gave her a smile like she was being adorable. Eden scowled. “You are not allowed to think I’m cute.”

The smile grew even wider.

“Stop it!”

A bald guy in an apron wandered over. “What’ll it be, folks?”

Eden had barely glanced at the plastic menu. “I’m good, thank—”

“We’ll have lasagne, chicken Alfredo, steak and Guinness pie, roast potatoes and a side of gravy, thanks.”

“What?” Eden burst out.

Willow ignored her. “Can we also get chips?”

The bald nodded. “That’ll be about twenty minutes. Come up to the bar if you want more drinks.”

He left, and Eden glared at Willow. “You’re trying to kill me.”

“I’m really not. How’s your absinthe? Edgy enough?”

Eden refused to smile. “Are you a feeder? Do you want to pull your dick while I eat fistfuls of cake?”

Willow burst out laughing. “If I was, would you be into it?”
