“From everything I heard, Victorian doctors didn’t wank people off,” Willow said. “They definitely didn’t wear white coats. But I thought it probably didn’t have to be that realistic.”

“Not at all.” She glanced at the door. “I can’t believe you bought a plaque.”

“Figured I’d put it on my bedroom door. See if I can impress anyone else.”

She imagined him taking some other girl by the hand, making her lie down in front of him in his white coat. Jealously lurched through her like a drunken animal.

Why does it matter if he fucks someone else dressed like a doctor? I’ll probably do this with another guy.

But in her gut, she knew that was impossible. From here on out, this fantasy was tied to Sloan Williams. Everyone else would fall short. He ruffled his hair, making it look as stylishly scruffy as it had the night they’d met. “It was fun to act again. I haven’t done it in a while.”

Eden stared at him. “You act?”

“I have.”

“How? Did the Hammers pay for you to go to drama classes?”

“Nah. I was in a bunch of plays at school. Had a lead in The Wiz.”

“Who were you?” she asked, then instantly knew.

“The Scarecrow,” she and Willow said at the same time.

Eden cracked up. “I don’t know how you could possibly be anyone else.”

“Yeah, I was born to play a big, gangly dork.”

“What made you stop acting?”

“Football. I juggled for a while, but it was an either/or situation and football made more sense. I knew I could keep performing if I injured out.”

Eden shook her head. “I can’t believe you made professional acting your fallback.”

He grinned, every inch the overconfident school captain.

“I take it back,” she said. “You’re the only person I know with that kind of confidence.”

“Yeah, I’m a pretty lucky guy. Where did your accent come from, by the way?”

Eden had been hoping he wouldn’t ask. She decided not to lie. “My parents.”

He raised a brow. “Sassenach?”

“I’m afraid so.”

He grinned. “That’s a crying shame. Thank god I’m an open-minded guy.”

“Yeah, that’s definitely the impression I got while you were fucking me with a dildo.”

He laughed and Eden was pleased with herself. She stared at the ceiling, tracing the thin water stains across the plaster. “Did you rent this place?”

“Booked it for the day. I wasn’t sure how long we’d need.”

“And all the stuff? The desk and the flowers and this?” She tugged at the sheet.

Willow didn’t say anything. She glanced over and saw him watching her closely.

She wiped her cheek. “What?”

“Nothing. Wanna get out of here?”
