Sienna gaped at him, and David gave a shocked laugh. “If you say so, mate.”

His gaze dropped to Eden. “I heard Miles Redford is married now. He was one leg of the throuple, wasn’t he?”

“He was,” Eden said dully. “Willow, we should get—”

“One second.” David flashed him a game-show grin. “How long have you and Edie been together?”

Willow wanted to punch him in his rectangular head. How could he have thought this guy was good-looking? He was a fucking weasel. “A little while now. Things are going great.”

“Really?”

“Yep, Eden’s crazy talented, funny. Gorgeous. What’s not to love?”

“Oh, so it’s love, is it?”

Eden stepped forward. “We’re just seeing how things go. Anyway, we should let you guys go.”

David smirked. “Of course. You’ve got more drinking to do, don’t you, Edie?”

Willow’s hands balled into fists, but he held back, waiting for Eden to tell him to get fucked. But she just stood there, limbs loose, her expression empty.

David leaned forward, kissing her on the cheek. “Thanks for coming to say hi, Edie.”

Willow wanted to backhand him for touching her. Instead, he wrapped an arm around Eden’s shoulders and steered her away. Desperate to avoid more football chat, he moved them onto the dance floor. The DJ was playing ‘Dancing in The Moonlight’ and party guests surged around them, smelling of lemony perfume and alcohol.

He bent to speak in Eden’s ear. “What the fuck was that?”

She shook her head. Her face was glazed, her skin cold. Alarmed, Willow put his hands around her waist and pulled her into his body. “It’s okay. We can just stay here for a while.”

Her mouth twitched.  “You want to dance?”

“I want to see you smile.”

She tried and the attempt was so miserable, it broke his heart. Toploader transitioned to ‘Crazy Little Thing Called Love.’ The crowd gave a little cheer and Willow saw the DJ grab the microphone. “Making their way to the dance floor, it’s the future Mr and Mrs Walker! Give it up, people!”

The crowd clapped and whistled. Eden shuddered in his arms. Willow watched Sienna and David swaying together. Maybe he was imagining it, but they seemed to be dancing toward them. He turned Eden so his body was between her and her creepy brother-in-law.

Eden touched his collar. “Mum and dad are watching.”

Willow glanced around and sure enough, Maggie and George were studying them from the edge of the dance floor. They didn’t look mad, Maggie looked delighted and George raised his beer to him. Willow tried to smile. He felt like he was missing something. Something dangling right in front of his face. He bent to the shell of her ear again. “Drink?”

“I need the bathroom. Should I meet you at the bar?”

“Nah, I’ll come with you.”
