I don’t ask him to elaborate. I know he’s not going to. I just have to trust that Asher and Ana know what they’re doing.
Because God knows I don’t.

I’m holding a mistletoe to Perseus with the Head of Medusa while Emanuel takes a rather suggestive selfie with Perseus’ lower regions.
“Talk about a work of art,” he says, scrolling through his camera roll. “I’m making this my Christmas card next year. Abuelita is gonna have to light twelve candles for my soul.”
“I’m sure that’s exactly what she wants for Christmas,” I laugh.
We walk back to the party before security throws us out for being inappropriate. Getting banned from the Met is not something I have on my bucket list. I don’t want to ruin my chances of being invited to all the super elite galas that are definitely in my future.
“So on a scale of one to ten, what do you think are the odds I’m gonna get hired after this internship?” Emanuel asks as we cross into the Great Hall where Winter Wonderland is taking place.
“Ten, definitely,” I say. I don’t want to tell him Ana already offered me a position. But I can’t see Ana not offering Emanuel one too. He works hard, stays late, and always refills his staplers. That’s the kind of employee I’d want on my team.
“Well, in the unlikelihood that Bree gets hired, I’m requesting a desk change.”
“River seems to like her,” I say.
“Yeah, because she’s sucking his dick on the regular.”
I desperately try to shake that mental image out of my head.
I need to bleach my brain.
Emanuel ditches me for the sushi bar, mumbling something about how he’s going to eat enough spicy tuna rolls to turn himself into a fish. I appreciate his dedication, but the thought of eating that much sushi makes me sick. I’d rather take my chances with the make-your-own-crêpe station. All you can eat Nutella? Yes, please.
Before I can put myself in a chocolate-hazelnut coma, my phone buzzes from the home it’s made in my bra. I glance around to make sure no one is watching before I reach in to grab it. The last thing I want is to get a notice from HR about fondling myself at a company event.
Asher
I have to run over to the office.
Save me at least ONE Nutella crêpe.
Olivia
That’s an awfully big demand.
I might be inclined to follow through if you bring me some of the expensive chocolate from your desk.
Asher
I don’t have any in my office.
But I have some at my apartment.
Olivia
Are you trying to get me to come home with you?
Asher
What kind of man bribes a woman with chocolate?
Olivia
A smart one.
Asher
In that case…
“You’re blushing.”
