Inside, the lobby is sparkling. Tiny white lights are draped over bare branches, illuminating the room like the winter wonderland I envisioned. Soft piano notes of Christmas classics sing in the background. I’ve been staring at these walls for weeks straight, but being here at night with a crowd of people transports me to an entirely different world. It’s magical. I take pictures from every angle, so I don’t forget.
Behind me, I feel the presence of another person, and when their hand grazes my lower back, I turn warm all over it.
It’s Asher.
Well, I assume it’s Asher until their cologne wafts around me. It’s all too familiar, but not the soft earthy scents of wood and vanilla and sage that he uses.
“Just the girl I was looking for.”
My stomach turns when his lips lower to my ear. “Get your hands off of me, Levi.”
“I want to talk,” he says. “We have some unfinished business.”
“We have nothing to talk about,” I snap and pull away from him. “Get your hands off me before I make a scene.”
“Don’t be like this, Livi,” he whispers, his lips pressed to the crown of my head. “Where’s the girl who was ready to drop her panties for me the first day we met?”
“She realized how vile you are.”
“Ouch,” he laughs. “That hurt.”
I jam my foot down on his.
“Bitch—”
“Yeah, and you better not forget it.”
His eyes catch mine in a flare of rage. If the room wasn’t crowded with people, he wouldn’t have given up so easily.
“This isn’t over.”
“Yes, it is,” Asher says tightly. He’s standing behind Levi with a stone-cold expression on his face.
Levi rolls his eyes. “This doesn’t involve you, Asher.”
“You can contact Olivia’s lawyer if you have something to say,” he says. “Her name is Vivian Fisher-Walton.”
I have a lawyer?
I’m pretty sure I can’t even afford a free consultation.
“Sharing a lawyer?” he laughs. “I didn’t realize you two had gotten so serious. Is it an open relationship? Because I’m pretty sure Olivia had her tongue in my—”
“You need to leave,” Asher says. “Now.”
“Is that any way to speak to a client, Asher?” he asks. “Your father personally invited me.”
“Then go bother him.”
A grin flickers over Levi’s lips before his eyes catch mine. “I’ll be seeing you, Livi.”
“Yeah, in hell.”
“Feisty,” he says. “You must be fun in—”
“Go,” Asher snaps.
Eventually, he does. Asher keeps his eyes on him until he disappears into the wings of the museum for only the artwork to judge him.
“Are you okay?” Asher asks.
No.
I’m not.
And I won’t be until Levi is stopped.
“I don’t want him to hurt someone else,” I say.
“He’s not going to.”
