He let out a slow breath, his eyes bright as golden coins. “That’s so easy, Butterfly. I’ve been yours almost since the beginning. But I was so afraid that I didn’t have anything to offer. Let’s face it, I wasn’t a catch when we met, and by most standards, I’m still not. I don’t earn—”
“Bullshit,” she cut in. “I was making enough money already when we got married, and though I’ve shifted gears, we’re still doing fine freelancing. When you add in the inheritance, money isn’t a factor. One day soon, I’ll be allowed to freelance as a witch as well. Imagine the money I could earn doing beauty glamours for special occasions. People with skin conditions who can’t wear cosmetics at all could benefit.”
Trev blinked. “Wow. I didn’t even think of that.”
“I don’t need someone to buy me shiny things. I can do that for myself. What I need is someone who always shows up, who always has my back. And you’ve been that person for me, even when I failed to offer you the same. If you think you can stand living with a witch, I’m yours for better or worse, just like we promised in Vegas. I didn’t realize it at the time, but I meant those vows. I truly did.”
“I love you,” Trev whispered. “So damn much. Nobody else made me feel like I could ever put myself back together.”
“But I didn’t do anything,” she protested.
“See, that’s the thing. You didn’t have to. I needed to make those changes, and you were so steadfast in believing that I could. And you gave me somewhere to go when I needed it most.”
When he reached out, Leanne leaned into him, settling against his side with rising sweetness. He loves me back. He doesn’t want this to end either. Not content with only his arm around her, she also laced their fingers together.
“You were always amazing. It’s rare to find someone who is genuinely gentle and kind. And trust me, I’m aware you have a habit of swallowing your hurt, letting things go because you don’t want to upset people. Please don’t do that with me, sweetheart. We’ll argue sometimes, but coming to a compromise that suits us both will make us stronger in the long run. From now on, don’t keep the pain inside. Let me share it.”
Sighing softly, he rubbed his cheek against her hair. “I’m not opposed. It’s just that there hasn’t been anyone for so long that I kinda forgot how it’s meant to be.”
“We’ll figure it out.”
Just then, Leanne’s phone rang—a call from Danica. She answered and said, “You’re on speaker. What’s up?”
