Dirty bitch, Morgan thought, knowing that Nish was fishing for an explanation.

Bestie:

I know!!! I’ve been meaning to tell you! It’s crazy. We always said we were going to snag us some legit niggas. His homeboy been asking about you too. I hope you not feeling a type of way about us. I know you used to have a little crush on him, but that’s little girl shit. We’re grown women now. You’re my girl. I don’t want no little shit coming between us.

Morgan was livid. She knew Nish was trying to downplay her treachery by belittling Morgan’s affection for Messiah. Or am I overreacting? He wasn’t my man. I never even told her about spending time with him at the Falls, and I haven’t seen her since the motel. She knew I liked him; but who doesn’t like him? Every girl in the city had him in their radar, she thought. Morgan was jealous and angry, but she wasn’t, entirely, sure she had the right to be. So, instead of starting conflict, she conceded.

Morgan:

I’m good. Messiah ain’t my issue with you. What happened to you that night? Those niggas did me dirty and you just disappeared.

Bestie:

BESTIE:I’m so sorry, girl. I honestly didn’t think it was that big of a deal. I was high as hell and just out of it. I wasn’t thinking straight. Let’s link up. Have lunch… I miss you and I want to make it up to you for leaving you by yourself that night. Meet me at the hibachi spot in half an hour.

Morgan sighed. She wanted to see Nish, face to face, to look her in the eyes to see if she could sense bullshit or sincerity. Morgan snatched up her handbag and car keys, before rushing down the stairs and out the door. A part of her wanted to declare war on her best friend, but she knew she couldn’t. If Messiah had chosen Nish, who was Morgan to hate?
