The room was empty when we left the bathroom. We collected our coats and headed to the door, then I remembered Jay’s card and backtracked, collecting it from the end table.

“Are you seriously considering hooking up with two married men?”

“I don’t know. I’ve never had a threesome. Sounds like fun, and I clearly need to get laid if we get this gig because me getting randomly hard is kinda embarrassing.”

He didn’t agree or disagree. Asher stormed off toward the elevator, leaving me behind.

He seemed unsettled and moody, and I couldn’t decide if it was me bringing up my untimely erection or if he was against me hooking up with a married couple. Either way, I knew Asher well enough to know I should leave him alone to work it out and not pester him.

We found Charlotte, Lewis, and Jay in the hotel’s Starbucks. They’d pushed two tables together and were chatting with their heads close. When Charlotte noticed us, she waved us over with a smile.

“Can I get you boys a drink or something to eat?”

“No thanks,” we said at the same time. I hated when we did that. People thought it was a cute twin thing. To us, it was annoying.

We joined the table, and Lewis kept his eyes on Charlotte, waiting for her cue. She nodded and dashed a quick glance at Jay before turning to us. “We’d like to discuss a contract.”

My eyes blew wide. “Holy shit! Really? We didn’t fuck up?”

Asher placed a hand on my leg, keeping me in place since I was ten seconds from performing a happy dance, and he knew it.

“How much?” he said, his tone flat and showing no enthusiasm whatsoever.

“That’s what we’re here to discuss.”

“I still have concerns.” Lewis swiveled in his seat to face us. “It’s one thing to be photographed for a half hour or so and a whole other thing to act for the camera like that for half a day. What you gave us today was choppy and broken at best. Clumsy. Amazing highs and lots of emotion then crashes where one or both of you grew awkward, and it showed.”

“But for your first time in front of a camera, it was fabulous,” Charlotte said, jumping in. “You two even acted the parts. I heard you using the character’s names, and you have no idea how exciting that is.”

“How much?” Asher asked again.

I bumped his knee with mine, trying to curb his biting edge.

Jay straightened and pulled papers from a briefcase beside him. “Take a look at the offer and let us know what you think. This was drawn up based on what was written in the ad you responded to online. There’s room for negotiation, and we’re open to hearing your input.”
