“Yeah. Apparently, I need to join him.” I dangled the key as evidence. “Do you know CPR? In case I die of a heart attack or something. I don’t normally let women put their mouths that close to mine, but if I was dying, I’d make an exception.”

She smiled. “You’ll be fine. If you need a hand with anything, just ask.”

My plan was to dawdle long enough Asher would be done by the time I was dressed. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case. The guy spent an exorbitant amount of time at the gym. Routines meant more than a quick run on the treadmill. Ugh.

Asher’s shorts were drawstring, which saved me since I was far skinnier than my brother and did not fill them out at all. They hung loose and baggy. So did the T-shirt. I wandered back into the gym area with my arms wrapped around my midsection. People like me didn’t belong in places like this. Talk about self-conscious.

Asher wasn’t on the treadmill anymore. A quick scan and I found him loading a free-weight bar and laughing with Mr. Muscles-times-three with the hot ass. So the guy was a personal trainer. That did not surprise me.

I did my best to walk with confidence across the room toward them, but when you had toothpicks for legs and the ideal computer geek body, it didn’t come across right. The few looks I garnered had nothing to do with my unsweaty hotness.

“There he is.” Asher waved me over. “Tony, this is Atticus, my brother.”

Tony sized me up and down and tipped his chin. “Hey.”

“Hey. We’re twins. It doesn’t look like it, but we are. We used to be identical, but then Asher decided lifting large objects for no reason was fun. Apparently, you share this insane notion for reasons I can’t understand.”

Tony frowned.

“Ignore him. He rambles when he’s nervous.”

I would have objected, but he was spot on the money, and I was just glad I had enough forethought not to blurt out how hot Tony’s ass was. The guy could probably flatten me with one finger.

“What am I gonna do while you prove your manliness?”

“You’re going to prove your own. Look, I set you up a bar too. Tony is spotting for me, but he can give you a hand if you need it.”

Sure enough, there was a weight bar beside Asher’s with puny little weights loaded on each end. He was lifting over three hundred pounds, and by the look of it, I was aiming for a killer forty. Go me. This wasn’t embarrassing at all.

“Is that all you’re giving me? Seriously? I’m not a weakling.” I was so a weakling, but Tony didn’t need to know that.

“It’s just a place to start. If it’s too easy, we can bump it up.”
