I shuffled and scanned the studio while shoving my hands deep into the pockets of my coat. “He’s running late. Had a date last night.” I had no clue what he did last night, but he had a date last Friday, so it wasn’t farfetched.
“All right. These guys are just finishing setting up. We have a little area blocked off over here as a changing room of sorts.” Jay gestured and guided me toward a few barrier curtains near the corner of the room. “Aria will be doing a bit of makeup on you both before the shoot.” He indicated the woman and the tackle box. “It won’t be anything drastic. Just enough to eliminate shine and shadows on your faces.”
Aria peered over her shoulder and offered a warm smile. She was a few years older than me—twenty-five or twenty-six at a guess—with flawless brown skin and a beauty that was sought after in the modeling industry. She was petite yet curvy in all the right places. Her raven hair hung past her shoulders in soft waves.
“I’ve given you both robes to wear since it’s chilly in here,” Jay went on, taking my arm and guiding me toward the changing area. “We’ve asked them to turn up the heat, but they told us it might take an hour or so before we feel a difference. It’s an old building.”
We rounded the curtain. There was a loveseat, a small table containing a basin filled with ice and bottles of water, and a free-standing coat rack with two fluffy white robes hanging on either side.
“We tried to make it cozy since it will be a long day. I told Lewis to ensure you two got decent breaks since modeling is new for you both, and the stress might get to you faster. Also, circumstances make this a bit more delicate than normal modeling, considering what we’re asking you to do.”
What? Making out with my brother? I’d say.
“And lunch is on us later. I have an order placed with the deli down the road. They’re delivering a nice spread around noon.”
“Perfect.”
Blocked by the privacy curtain, Jay stepped closer and smoothed a hand down my chest. “You okay? You seem tense.”
I shrugged him off and walked to the other side of the small table, surveying the room. “I’m okay. This is a big deal, and I just want to get it right.”
“You will. I was surprised to see the chemistry shine through between you and Asher last month. It was very believable.”
Yeah. Practice does that. It also encourages feelings and activities we probably would never have explored or felt had we not signed up for this.
“We had a long … talk about it.” We basically fucked. “So we’re ready.” We are so not ready.
