- ABOUT THE AUTHOR
“Hell yeah. Wait until you see who else we got to play. And I already have a wait list for next year.” She started dancing and walking at the same time as the Vibes began playing one of their songs that had gone viral on social media.
Austin stopped where we were. “Can I have this dance?”
It was an upbeat song, and he passed his umbrella to Parker, who started using it as a cane. Austin held his arms out in a classic dance pose.
I pretended to curtsy and then took up in his arms. We were slow dancing to a fast song, but it didn’t matter.
“Is it selfish to say I’m glad you’re not dating anyone?” He twirled me into a dip.
I knew I was blushing. “I don’t think so.”
He pulled me back up. “Your face is just what I needed.”
I touched the scruff on his face. “Same here. Every day I can’t believe I made it through a year without you.”
I had a touch of concern—maybe I was saying too much. He didn’t know how big my love was for him. That I already knew he was my one and only. If I couldn’t have Austin? Then I was content to just be Taylor on my own.
“I can’t believe it was a year. It felt like forever, but also so quick.” He rested his chin on my head briefly.
Teddi tapped me on the shoulder. “Can I cut in? I want to see if he learned any fancy moves in France. I need to up my game.”
Ruffian held up both hands. “Now I need to watch out for fancy moves?”
I walked over to Ruffian and heard my name in the distance. Peaches was headed at me with a running gallop.
“Holy crap.” I tried to step behind Ruffian, but he put his hands on my shoulders and held me in place. Peaches hit me like a happy little freight train.
“Taylor! Look at this nonsense! All because you and Austin rock.” She hung off of me like a rowdy koala.
“Peaches! You’re going to knock us over and then we won’t be wearing white anything.” I pointed to the squishy grass.
“I don’t care.” She kissed me hard on one cheek, then the other.
Once she had relaxed a bit, we ventured out to see what the vendors had in place. There were free favor bags with pens, pop sockets, and bubbles to blow.
When the Vibes ended their song, Peaches and I were looking at a flower crown display.
I felt Austin’s presence next to me. Just having him near made me feel special and like the luckiest person in the park.
He grabbed a white rose crown and placed it on my head. “This is the one for you.”
He touched my hip and pulled out his phone. “I have to get this.”
