- MY DAD
- ABOUT THE AUTHOR
“I come from a long line of matchmakers. Usually, it’s the ladies that do it, but I have a knack for it. Hence, the business.” He flipped through my paperwork and furrowed his brow.
“Matchmaking? I saw the advertisement for one hundred ten percent and all that. Seems a bit much.”
He leveled his stare at me from over the paperwork. “Have you found any negative reviews?”
Whoa. It was a touchy subject for him, I was guessing. “No. I was gifted this whole thing from a guy I used to be involved with.” I ran a finger in circles on the edge of my glass.
“Austin Burathon?”
My eyes snapped up at the mention of his name. Then I tried to hide my eagerness by looking at the floor. “How’d you know?”
“It’s his credit card.” He tapped the paper.
“Oh. So this isn’t some sort of mind reading/psychic experience.” I really should’ve done more research before coming here.
Wolf closed my file with a slap. “I’m canceling this. We can’t do it.”
I had a decent amount of self-confidence, but Wolf claiming he couldn’t do for me what he one hundred ten percent could do for anyone else was a kick in the pants.
“Don’t make that face. You’re a gorgeous woman, but you’re here under false pretenses.” He grimaced at me.
Now I was getting insulted. I stood up and put my glass on his desk.
There was a light knock on the door and a beautiful woman walked in.
She read the room quickly and hurried over to Wolf’s side. “What’s up?”
“Can’t do this one.” He pointed at my folder with his pinkie.
“Care to tell me why?” I was ready to huff out.
“Hi, I’m Hazel. This is my husband and he sucks at speaking clearly to women sometimes. Please forgive him. He can do this for everyone so far, but if there’s a complication, sometimes he needs to tell people.” Her words got harsher toward the end of her sentence.
Wolf grumbled under his breath.
“Just tell her before she leaves.” She grabbed his bicep.
“You’ve already met your match, and setting you up with one of the guys here is just a recipe for disaster.” He waved his hand in dismissal.
I sighed. “This is a hell of a scam. You have to give my friend his money back. Do you buy good reviews or get bad ones taken down? How does this work?” I headed for the door Hazel had recently stepped through.
Wolf crowded over to be in front of the door. Hazel pulled him backward.
“Always leave a lady a way out of a room, you caveman.” I liked Hazel.
I appreciated that she cared about my comfort.
