- ABOUT THE AUTHOR
“Shit. I’m so sorry. Are you okay? Shit.” Endgame pushed my hair away from my face.
“What happened? What’s happening?” I was fuzzy.
There were four more guys that I didn’t recognize, and Peter and Roberta were still here, too. I was reclining on an ugly mustard couch with huge flowers on it.
“You passed out. Thunder farts over there blocked your airway.” He pointed at Roberta.
“Shut your mouth, coloring book face.” She took a step in Endgame’s direction.
“Are you kidnapping me?” My head hurt.
It was like his whole body cringed. “I did this stupid thing. I was being vindictive. I was being heartbroken. And your old roommate stopped by my party and we got to talking. She had, like, so much weed. Did you know she sold weed? Well, her boyfriend’s brother sells it. So crazy.”
He took out a cigarette and lit it. “Want a pull?”
I shook my head no, then felt the pressure in my temples from the movement.
“Okay. Yeah. Maybe not because you were having trouble breathing. I just wanted him to worry a little. I wasn’t going to take it this fucking far.” He glowered at Roberta.
Roberta, to her credit, appeared a bit sheepish.
“Just call your boyfriend and tell him to bring the money to pay for the shit you broke and we can let you go home with him. It’s not a kidnapping, it’s just paying your bills, you know?”
The guy that had a wall for a chest cleared his throat.
“I’m calling the shots, bitch. You wanted to borrow my guys? Fine. But I’m not doing this for free. I get to keep her. That’s fair.” He walked closer to me.
Endgame scooted so my hip and his hip were touching. “No, dude. I’m sorry, but I can’t let you do that. She’s, like, a good person.”
The wall chest guy’s eyebrows pulled together. “I don’t give four flying fucks if she’s a saint. She’ll work for me. And I’ll like it. A lot.”
I looked from Endgame to Roberta and back again. No one knew what to say.
“Bullsen, I thought you owed Peter’s brother a favor?” Roberta shifted from one foot to another.
He stormed over to her. “I owe nothing to no-fucking-body. That’s it. Get out. Get out right fucking now.”
The veins in his neck flexed. Roberta bit her lip like she might say more then thought better of it. She met my eyes, and I saw fear and regret there.
These two assholes had delivered me to a monster for no good reason.
A distant door slammed.
“I never did anything to her crap. She broke some of my stuff and stole my closet.” I tried to make a case for myself.
