We finish eating, and she cleans the kitchen while I get dressed. After she’s done, Hadleigh follows me around the house, chatting about anything and everything. It’s the middle of August, and apparently, it’s supposed to be really hot today.

I slip on my boots, then she follows me into the bathroom wearing a grin. I add toothpaste to my toothbrush, and when I look down on the counter, I see a white stick. Tilting my head, I pick it up, somewhat confused. Then I turn around with the test in my hand. Hadleigh’s wearing a soft smile, leaning against the doorframe.

“Baby, what’s this?” I ask.

HADLEIGH

My heart thuds hard against my chest as Knox looks at me. He’s just as surprised as I was when I peed on it.

“Look closer,” I urge, hoping he’ll realize what the two pink lines mean.

“I’m lookin’,” he says, and then his expression changes when he looks at the key and realizes what it means.

“Hads,” he whispers hoarsely.

The toothbrush slips from his other hand and hits the floor. Then he quickly wipes his mouth and comes closer, pressing his minty lips against mine.

“We’re having a baby?” he finally gets out.

I smile and nod. “Yes. All your breeding kinks finally turned into a reality.”

Knox drops to his knees, lifts my shirt, then kisses my bare belly. His strong arms wrap around my waist with happiness written all over his face. I never want to forget this special moment.

My emotions get the best of me, and tears well on the edges of my eyes when I look down at him. “Can you believe it?”

I stopped taking my birth control just a few months ago, so getting pregnant this fast is a dream come true.

“I’m so fuckin’ happy right now. Starting a family with you is all I’ve ever wanted.”

“Me too,” I say, choking up. “But I’m kinda scared too. Taking care of a baby is a really big responsibility.”

He stands and cups my face. “You’re gonna be the best damn mom. You’re so loving and caring, but you also don’t take anyone’s shit. And fuck, you’re so damn sexy already, but seeing my baby in your belly is gonna drive me wild.”

I chuckle. “Honestly, I didn’t think it was gonna happen so soon. I hoped it would, and now I’ve got everything I’ve ever wanted. You. Living on the ranch. A beautiful baby boy or girl.”

“Maybe both,” he says with a cocky shrug.

“Please don’t wish twins upon me the first time. I’ve already been warned by Harper about how huge the Bishop babies usually are. Twins actually sound like real-life torture.”
