Balloons fall from the ceiling.

LOUISE: Shouldn’t we do a pros and cons list before we do something… impetuous?

PRODUCER: You don’t have time for lists, love. No offence, but your porridge has gone well cold, if you know what I mean.

ARTY: It’s our turn to be the swans, Louise.

PRODUCER: You’re not exactly beating them back with a stick, are you?

ARTY: Just say yes.

PRODUCER: This offer’s got ‘last chance’ written all over it.

ARTY: And we’ll make the space less empty—together.

Beat.

LOUISE looks at the camera, looks back at ARTY.

LOUISE: Okay… okay.

ARTY and LOUISE Eskimo kiss.

PRODUCER: Slow motion

Tears of joy running down Arty’s blushing face

Tears of something running down Louise’s

Close-up of Arty’s smile, big enough to split the globe

Cut to

The boom guy, gaffer, two work experience kids and Louise straining with the effort of assisting Arty up from the floor

ARTY and LOUISE, hand in hand.

So what does the future hold for the lovebirds?

ARTY: Honeymoon in South America.

LOUISE: They don’t speak English in South America.

ARTY: No es un problema guapa.

LOUISE: I’m not going anywhere they don’t speak English.

ARTY: We’ll sail down the Amazon, picnic with the sloths, climb the Andes.

LOUISE: You know I’m afraid of heights.

ARTY: But I’ll be there to protect you, Lulu love.

LOUISE: I don’t want to be protected. I just want to be on the ground where they speak English.

ARTY: You’re the one who taught me the world’s much bigger than this room, this town, this country.

LOUISE: I didn’t mean / South America…

ARTY: In the life Arty’s living in his head

He and Lulu are living dirt-cheap in a straw hut in Fiji

She cooks the fish he catches over fire in the sand

And their six little ones run about like jack rabbits getting into mischief with the other Island children

And maybe they have an iguana called Hercules

And a tortoise named Thomas

And at the end of a hard day’s fishing and basket weaving

He and Lulu lounge in banana chairs, sipping coconut cocktails with little umbrellas, and watch the sun set in a sky of purples, pinks and reds

And they know this is paradise

And that they are extraordinary.

PRODUCER: Now that’s a dream worth having!

LOUISE: You’re joking, aren’t you? I don’t even like sand—it’s itchy.

ARTY: If you had asked me a couple months ago what I really wanted, I couldn’t have looked past a bag of cream puffs. But now I got a real hunger—for more.

LOUISE: But I was thinking ‘more’ as in trousers and a Tax File Number, not—
