JOJO: All I wanted was… It doesn’t have to be extreme like this. I know things got too far—with your weight—but it doesn’t mean everything has to change so extreme. It doesn’t mean… not everything has to change. ’Cause there’s things that’s good here, love, that we shouldn’t let go of.

Beat.

Moon?

ARTY: I dunno if that’s true anymore, or if it ever was.

JOJO: Moon, the only thing I’ve done right in my life is I know I done right by you. Being a good mum is the only thing I know I’ve done right.

Beat.

ARTY: I don’t want to see you anymore.

JOJO: Don’t be a silly sausage, you don’t mean—

ARTY: I’m not a sausage! I’m not a drumstick or a banana or a pickle! I’m a man! I’m a man! Don’t you get it? I’m gonna be thin, and I’m gonna have a job, and friends and a girlfriend who loves me and I’m a man and I don’t need you! I don’t want you.

ARTY leaves.

JOJO: Moon, please, I love you, Moon, please…

5 DAYS

DOCUMENTARY VOICE-OVER: Against all the odds, Arthur and Louise’s relationship continues to flourish.

LOUISE: When I first met him all I saw was fat. A grotesque blob out of a horror film. And now I see a man with the courage to remake himself.

ARTY: If I got any courage at all it’s ’cause of you.

LOUISE: That’s the job. Give a man a fish and he spends it on smokes. Teach a man to fish and he’s off the dole buying his own flake and chips. You can become disenchanted with this kind of work. Just the sheer number of losers you have to lie through your teeth to. But never with Arthur.

DOCUMENTARY VOICE-OVER: At 18 years old and now 361 kilograms, Arthur is half Louise’s age and six times her weight.

LOUISE: You can imagine what people think. I’m hardly a rung up from the lady who eats spam and shouts bible passages in front of the station. But popularity has never bothered me.

ARTY: Me neither.

LOUISE: I know it’s strange but…

ARTY looks at LOUISE.

ARTY: We fell in love.

LOUISE looks at ARTY.

LOUISE: We fell in love.

ARTY: Louise, if I never wake up again—

LOUISE: Arthur, don’t be so melodramatic, you’ll be—

ARTY: I want you to know that it’s all been worth it, all of it. ’Cause I got to love you.

Celine Dion’s ‘The Power of Love’ plays.

With great effort, ARTY gets down on one knee, and presents an alarmed LOUISE with a ring.

Lulu baby, will you marry me?

LOUISE is stunned.

She turns to the camera.

LOUISE: Please… we need privacy, please—

ARTY: But they organised the ring.

PRODUCER: And the balloons.
