ABOUT
GRIFFIN

Griffin Theatre Company is Australia’s only new writing theatre. In residence at Sydney’s historic SBW Stables Theatre, we lead the country in developing and producing great Australian stories, and are dedicated to supporting Australian artists.

For over 30 years we’ve been bringing audiences the highest standards of theatrical craft and the most unforgettable Australian plays. Australia’s most loved and performed play – Michael Gow’s Away – premiered at Griffin. The hit films Lantana and The Boys also began life as plays first produced by the company, as did the TV series Heartbreak High.

We also have a passion for developing Australian talent, with many of our nation’s most celebrated artists starting their professional careers here.

Griffin produces an annual subscription season of four to five main stage shows by Australian playwrights, and co-presents a season of new work with our leading independent artists. We also support artists through professional development opportunities, including artist residencies and masterclasses.

The SBW Stables provides an experience like no other – up close and personal for actors and audiences. It’s Sydney’s most intimate and persuasive stage.
