Thank you to Becky Thomas for telling me about the pickle book (it’s in here!), to DJ and Chardy for the perfect wedding toast that inspired a line in the book, to Carlton and Jen for throwing the finest literary salon in Chicago, and to everyone who’s been patient with me this year as I’ve tried to balance working what sometimes feel like three full-time jobs.
This last year has not been easy for the Jewish community—but I know we need darkness to appreciate the light. And I’ve been surrounded by so much light. I’ve strengthened friendships and developed new ones, and I’m particularly grateful for Jill Santopolo, Ali Rosen, Courtney Sheinmel, the AAA Founders group for giving me a place to feel safe, the Jewish Bookstagram Chat, and the whole Artists Against Antisemitism Board. I’m honored to be on this journey with you all.
Last, but certainly not least, thanks to the whole Godfrey family—Nate, Isaac, Eliza, Everett, Nora, Merrie, Jim, Ginger, and Beans (who I think is cute no matter the haircut). Thank you for sharing Bradeigh with me and making me feel like I’m part of the family. I’m the luckiest.
From Bradeigh:
Alison, there’s no one else I’d rather embark on this writing journey with—thank you for being my partner in this story and so many others. Together, we’ve navigated every twist, turn, and plot hole crisis with countless texts, Zooms, and so many rewrites. I couldn’t be prouder of the story we’ve brought into the world, and I’m excited for more to come! I’m blessed to be surrounded by so many booklovers in my life—thanks to the Physician Mom Book Club and my IRL book club for surrounding me with a community of kindred spirits who understand the thrill and solace of a good story. Thank you to my parents, Merrie and Jim, for raising me in a home with plenty of books and lots of discussions. I’m endlessly grateful to my wonderful friends (including but not limited to Amanda, Amy, Suzanne, Erin, Stephanie, Kellie, Susan, and Ashley) for the conversations, laughter, and unwavering support. To my kids—Isaac, Eliza, Everett, and Nora—I’m so lucky you cheer me on even when my head is buried in a manuscript. My furry sidekicks, Ginger and Beans, thank you for curling up beside me during long writing hours. And finally, Nate—thank you for being my anchor, for believing in my stories even when I doubt them. Without you, none of this would be possible.
Last, but not least, this book would not exist without the magic that Nora Ephron created when she wrote and directed one of our all-time favorite movies, You’ve Got Mail. For that, we thank her.
