“We’re now arriving in Miami. The weather is a seasonable eighty degrees and sunny …” the head stewardess announced. “… Enjoy your stay in Miami. And thank you for flying Air Tran …”
Sitting in business class, the girls were able to quickly exit the plane, long before the droves of passengers flooded the aisles, fighting each other for room to depart. After retrieving their luggage, Kat, Goldie and Tender walked through Miami International Airport like they owned it. It must have been a Philly thing, the way they carried themselves. Their struts suggested that they were somebody.
Strolling past the kaleidoscope of people, they were privy to many different languages, accents and dialects. Miami was an international melting pot, full of so many different ethnic origins.
Finally they made their way to the Avis rental car counter. Kat gave the counter person her driver’s license and credit card. She was then handed a car rental agreement and the keys to a shiny black Jaguar. The other girls were not the least bit surprised—they knew Kat’s style. She was going to live it up, at home and on the road, whether she was on the run or not.
They drove on the expressway, passing scenic downtown Miami. The city’s skyline rivaled that of any city in the United States. In no time they reached South Beach and their hotel. Tall palm trees, exotic cars and scantily clad people greeted them, like a welcoming committee. Everywhere they looked they could see the bold and the beautiful. The Loews hotel was one of the most elegant, desirable and high-priced hotels on South Beach. It sat on a man-made hill with its powdery white finish. It slightly resembled a castle from a distance.
Kat wheeled her rental car up the hotel’s oval brick driveway, coming to a stop at the entrance. She was met by a valet who helped remove their luggage while someone parked the car. Then the girls were escorted inside to check in.
“You have three rooms registered in your name, miss. My records show that one is a suite, and two adjoining rooms.”
Kat merely nodded her head in agreement. After the receptionist magnetized the card keys, they followed the bellman to their rooms.
After settling in, Goldie and Tender paid Kat a visit. She had a large living room furnished in antiques, a massive mahogany bed and a fully equipped kitchenette. Each room was styled slightly different from the next. If this plush room didn’t blow you away, then the breathtaking view of the beach and the Atlantic Ocean would.
Tender and Goldie were in awe. Tender couldn’t wrap her head around how they had gone from last night and the confrontation with Jules to now. Not to mention how Kat could afford to stay here. But she’d soon find out.
