Anyway, Pete and Darren are working together to turn the rest of your notes and half-written stories into more books, and they’ll be published under your name as well. The publishers were relieved they weren’t investing in an author who couldn’t keep providing them with more work.
It’s a bestseller by the way, Don’t Breathe. The royalties are going to Andrea. I know it’s going to be tough for her being a single mother and I don’t want her to have financial worries on top of that. So I insisted. The money for the next book will be split between Darren and Pete, of course, seeing as they’re working so hard to pull it all together. Pete and Mimi will have a new book out soon, too. You should see the gorgeous illustrations in this one. Mimi’s absolutely outdone herself. There’s this adorable little monkey, cheekiest thing I’ve ever seen. I love it.
And we talked about Andrea’s pregnancy. It’s a boy, by the way. I wonder if she’ll ever feel ready to tell me the truth. That Tony’s not the father. She thinks I don’t know, but she has no idea that Tony told me he’d already had a vasectomy. That he was pretending there was still a chance for them to have children when he knew full well it was never going to happen. I was going to tell her, but then I thought, does she really need to know that there was yet one more lie in her marriage?
So who was the father? Well, I saw the way that man looked at her in the hospital that day. Shaun was his name and it was clear that he cared strongly for Andrea. So, I’ve put two and two together. Of course, I could be wrong, but I don’t think I am. I’m learning to trust my instincts from now on. I don’t blame Andrea for being unfaithful. Knowing everything that Tony has done, I can hardly judge her for straying.
I really do hope Andrea calls Shaun one day.
I suspect he might be the one to make her happy.
I just want to say to her, it’s okay, no one is going to be upset with you. Because we all just want her to be happy now. But she’ll have to come to it in her own time, when she’s ready.
