On the third day, she was at school when she saw him sign on a couple of minutes after she did. She felt her stomach do a little jump, which made her angry, like who was he to talk to her and then disappear for a few days and make her care?

SHARKBOY: So what’s your favourite kind of shark?

PONYO: I don’t have one. That’s like a mom saying which one of her kids is her favourite.

SHARKBOY: My mom would say my sister. No question.

PONYO: See, even your mom doesn’t like you.

She stopped chatting with him after that, even though he kept sending her stupid smiley faces. She was sure that he must be a creepy old guy because who other than creepy old guys used generic smiley faces? Finally, after a few days, she got fed up.

PONYO: Stop sending me those stupid smiley faces!

PONYO: They just make you look desperate.

SHARKBOY: Are you ever going to talk to me?

PONYO: I am talking to you.

SHARKBOY: You know what I mean.

SHARKBOY: Really TALK to me.

PONYO: Why should I?

PONYO: I don’t even know you.

SHARKBOY: The only way to get to know me is to talk to me.

PONYO: Why do you care so much?

SHARKBOY: I think you’re interesting.

SHARKBOY: You ARE interesting.

PONYO: Okay. I’ll tell you one thing.

SHARKBOY: What’s your name?

PONYO: Ponyo.

SHARKBOY: Your real name.

PONYO: It is my real name. I’m Ponyo. I was taken from the sea.

SHARKBOY: Not true. Ponyo went from the sea willingly.

SHARKBOY: I think you’d rather go back to the sea.

SHARKBOY: You’re like a reverse-Ponyo.

SHARKBOY: You’re not a mermaid who wants to be a girl, you’re a girl who wants to be a mermaid.

PONYO: Whatever.

PONYO: If you already know so much about me, why do you even need me to talk to you?

SHARKBOY: I don’t know everything about you. I don’t know your name.

SHARKBOY: You there?

PONYO: London. My name’s London.

SHARKBOY: Adam.

PONYO: Your name’s Adam and you work at the Monterey aquarium?

PONYO: LOL

SHARKBOY: What’s so funny?

PONYO: And you look after the sharks?

SHARKBOY: Yup.

PONYO: As if you’re Adam Pelley.

SHARKBOY:…

SHARKBOY: How did you know that?

PONYO: AS IF YOU’RE ADAM PELLEY.
