- About the Author
that primaries are a 20th century
development, yes.
(3/4/2008 10:33 PM PST) Nils:
I look forward to a long, agonizing
primary for the Dems that inevitably
culminates with a loss in November
that should have been an easy win.
(3/4/2008 10:33 PM PST) Kaveh:
I’m destroying this burner after we’re done.
(3/4/2008 10:35 PM PST) Nils:
What have you got for me?
(3/4/2008 10:36 PM PST) Kaveh:
Sol Kaplan is here. He works with ROSA.
(3/4/2008 10:30 PM PST) Nils:
Wow, I thought the conspiracy nuts just
made that up.
(3/4/2008 10:34 PM PST) Nils:
Is that it?
(3/4/2008 10:40 PM PST) Kaveh:
What do you mean is that it?
(3/4/2008 10:41 PM PST) Nils:
I mean, is that really he only
information
you have for me?
(3/4/2008 10:49 PM PST) Kaveh:
Cin-Bedford, VA. I couldn’t find anything
on NOROD but there was an incident in
Bedford, VA that happened the day after
NORAD involving two vehicles.
(3/4/2008 10:50 PM PST) Nils:
Casualties?
(3/4/2008 10:50 PM PST) Kaveh:
I don’t know.
(3/4/2008 10:50 PM PST) Nils:
Oeath? Sightings? What?
(3/4/2008 10:51 PM PST) Kaveh:
I think people died.
(3/4/2008 10:51 PM PST) Nils:
What kind of people? Bystanders?
(3/4/2008 10:55 PM PST) Kaveh:
No. CIA people. I overheard Kaplan
talking about losing agents in Bedford,
VA the day after NORAD. Two vehicles
were recovered. That’s all I know.
(3/4/2008 10:56 PM PST) Nils:
And do you have any clue as to the
identities of these individuals?
(3/4/2008 10:50 PM PST) Kaveh:
No. I don’t have any documents, I’m just
telling you what to look for.
(3/4/2008 11:00 PM PST) Nils:
Okay. If this leads to something, then
let us consider our business concluded.
(3/4/2008 11:05 PM PST) Kaveh:
You’re going to burn in hell for this.
(3/4/2008 11:05 PM PST) Kaveh:
This will be the last time we ever speak.
(3/4/2008 11:00 PM PST) Nils:
I don’t doubt it.

While Kaveh’s attention had gone to writing editorials against the Third Option, the U.S. Military’s was increasingly going to hunting down Obelus and rogue Similars. True to his word, Nikola answered pretty much every question thrown at him, even if the answer to pretty much all of them was some variation of, “That’s not Obelus.”
The following day, another outing was scheduled as something of a reward for Nikola being so cooperative. Owing to traffic (and nerves), Kaveh was late, and he had to run to the heliport where Nikola and his military entourage were waiting for him.
“Okay, let’s go see that big tree,” he said, adjusting his winter coat. It was a balmy seventy degrees here in Los Alamitos, but it would be much colder up in the mountains. The military entourage seemed unimpressed, and Nikola didn’t even seem to be paying attention. “Who’s ready for a big tree?”
“Hey!”
Kaplan’s voice echoing across the asphalt hit him like a crowbar to the neck, and he turned to see the man trotting, nay, running toward them.
He knows.
