[question] What does it matter now? Yes, I knew about some girls who got bothered by the men. I just told you already about my sister, why do you ask again about my sister? Usually just a pinch on the bottom, or they touch you on your bosoms when you go by. Nothing that would kill you. She was tough.

[question] You heard about girls who slept with the bosses but they kept it a secret from the others, nobody would be proud of that. Why are you asking about all of this? What does it have to do with the fire?

[question] Girls always tried to protect themselves from the worst of those kind of men, never go alone with him in some corner of the factory, or on the stairs, be careful you don’t get in a situation. You had to be careful. I don’t want to keep discussing this so much. What else do you want to know about?

[question] I met Sam Gottesfeld, my fiancé, he was the father of my son, at the Triangle, yes. We were going to get married. He worked there maybe six months ahead of me and my sister. He was there already a year and a half, that’s right. He was a machinist, with a lot of skills. They needed the machinists to keep everything running. His hands were always black with the oil on them, he couldn’t even get them clean on Sundays, under his nails it was always black even though he was a very clean man, always with a clean shirt, because he would go from one machine to the next machine, all the time, all through the day. He was a gentleman. That was how we met him, he was always fixing our machines, making adjustments when the belt would break or come loose, or something needed to be changed, or you broke a needle. My sister had a machine with a cockeyed wheel when we began and he had to keep fixing it so many times she told him he was making it cockeyed just so he could come over to her again.

[question] Yes, then he and I began to go for walks on our day off, that was how we became engaged. I don’t want to discuss this so much, it isn’t important to the story of the fire anyway.

[question] We had Sunday off because we were pieceworkers. Some of the week workers had to go on Sundays too. There was this sign in the elevator in the Triangle, it said YOU DON’T COME TO WORK SUNDAY, YOU DON’T COME TO WORK MONDAY. But we were above that, except sometimes Sam went in on Sundays, when they needed him, and he could make good money doing that. The elevator men, they made good money that way, doing extra days.

[question] I don’t remember how much they gave him.

[question] I am sure he told me about his money once we were engaged. We would be making plans for the future and telling each other everything like any engaged couple. We talked about the future and we made our plans. We were kids. But I don’t remember now so much. I am an old lady now.
