[question] I went out there a few times from the city on the Long Island Railroad. It was nice to walk on the boardwalk and see the ocean. What? Yes, in the hot weather. The sand was nice and cold on your toes under the boardwalk, that’s what I remember, and then too hot to walk on out in the sunshine. You had to have tickets to go on the sand from the boardwalk. From living there my friends had tickets and could give me one, for a guest.

[question] Yes, I had some friends there so I went, I just said that already, you have a problem remembering? From the Triangle, yes, there was Selma Breitenweiser, and Fannie Adler, she sewed the labels and inspected the finished goods, and there was that nice Teddy Kaplan, he had the glass eye, he was one of the cutters from the eighth floor, and Dora Levy too, she lived there but had to use a walker, poor thing so she couldn’t go out very much, and it was not possible for her to walk in the sand. Katie Lewarski, she would make the collars very fast, she made good money, she was in that building in the same hallway as Dora. Always with a book, that one, on our lunch breaks she would be reading when the rest of us were gossiping.

[question] No, I never seen Morris Jacobs there. We go back to him again? I don’t remember which was his building.

[question] I don’t know what kind of illness, but he had trouble walking, and I heard he couldn’t get out from the fire on his stove, and someone said to me once he had something wrong with him in his brain before he died. But I don’t know about it. Maybe you’ll find that out from somewhere else. Why are you so interested in him? A shmendrick. What’s to remember, what’s to discuss? You know what is a shmendrick? [reply] No, that is a schlemiel. A shmendrick is a little runt of a man. A bigger loser than a schlemiel. You know what they say? The schlemiel pees in the shower. The shmendrick gets out of the shower to pee [sic].

[question] I suppose I saw him when the trial was going on, I don’t remember so much specifically. So many people were at the trial, to testify or just to watch. I don’t really remember seeing him any day after the day of the fire. He got out with not a scratch. Do you want to know my memories or not?

[question] Did I see when he testified, you are asking was I there? I don’t remember. He did whatever the bosses say to him to do. He says the door was never locked. I say I saw him unlock it in front of me, I saw this with my own eyes, so I know it was unlocked after that. Why would he unlock an unlocked door? And who would lock it again? I lived. He lived. In the commotion it’s easy to make a mistake of who you saw and when it was, and what was locked and what wasn’t locked. Maybe he thought I was some other girl. Maybe he got confused like everyone did.
