She held up the other two folders and offered them to Julia. “Which one?”

Julia glanced at the labels. “I’ll take the Trendy Coffee Shop room.”

“I could have guessed, caffeine junkie.” Andie grinned and handed over the folder before glancing at the last one. “That leaves me with Posh Manhattan Apartment.” Andie raised an eyebrow, considering. “That doesn’t seem so bad. I mean, it’s not the royal treatment, but…”

“Are all the players resort guests?” Kat wondered, changing the subject.

Julia shook her head. “The hotel website mentioned professional performers also playing parts. I think it’s going to be kind of like one of those murder mystery dinners, where guests are given a role to play but actors control the flow of the game.”

“This sounds like LARPing,” Andie mused.

“Like what now?” Kat cocked her head.

“Live action role-playing.” Andie shrugged. “I’ve done a few.”

Kat turned to Julia. “Did you know about this secret nerd life she’s been hiding from us?”

“Shut up,” Andie grumbled. “It’s fun,” she added, turning around to face the mirror.

“I’m not disagreeing with you,” Kat said.

“Yikes,” Andie said to her reflection. “This color looks terrible on me.”

“I’m not disagreeing with you,” Kat repeated, smirking as she handed Andie a tissue. “Rose is a summer flower and a summer color. I’m a summer. Jules is an autumn. You’re a winter.”

“If you say so.” Andie wiped her mouth. “How about we move this riveting conversation out of the bathroom?”

“You’re the one who wanted to sleep in the bathtub,” Kat teased.

“Yeah, but I’ve got a posh apartment in Manhattan now,” Andie teased back, patting Kat on the cheek.

For a brief moment, as Julia settled onto one of the plush chairs in the suite’s decadent parlor, she regretted insisting that Kat take this room. But she quickly dismissed the thought and scanned the contents of her folder. “There isn’t much here,” she said, looking over the information, which included a name, occupation, and basic backstory.

“That’s standard,” Andie said flopping onto the sofa. “Leaves room for you to get creative and fill in the details.”

“There’s an itinerary.” Kat joined Andie on the couch. “Dinner tonight is at seven.”

“Oh, thank God, they’re going to feed us.” Andie exhaled with relief.

“Did you think you weren’t going to eat for an entire week?” Kat wondered.

“No.” Andie shrugged. “I just figured we’d be on our own.”

“All meals are included,” Julia explained. “It’s part of the experience.”

“Oh, and it says there’s a Mix and Mingle Cocktail Hour at six,” Kat added, reading from the itinerary again. “I like the sound of that.”

“They’re probably doing that instead of a hot seat session.”

Julia turned to Andie for clarification. “Hot seat?”

“It’s a LARPing activity where the players break into groups and grill each other.”
