To my publicist, Morgan Rath, who has worked so hard to get all three of my books out in the world, into the spotlight. Thank you for all of your efforts and thank you for all of your work. I still wish there was a better way to say this other than thank you. But thank you. An enormous thank you goes to the entire team at Feiwel and Friends/Macmillan: Kim Waymer, Jean Feiwel, Alexei Esikoff, Jessica White, and Erica Ferguson.
Liz Dresner—you have given me stunning cover after stunning cover. Your ability to understand my work and translate that understanding into a visual medium always leaves me in awe. Thank you, thank you, thank you. And to Carina Lindmeier—you brought my girls Daniella, Rinn, and Imogen to life. I really did cry when I saw them there, all in a line with their beautiful angst and attitude and come-at-me vibes. Thank you for all your work.
I feel I would be remiss if I did not mention the independent bookstores and the amazing libraries that I have encountered along my journey as an author. Thank you to Rose Brock for being such a champion of young people’s literature. Thank you to Emily Aaronson for building your own community at the Studio City Public Library. Thank you to Maryelizabeth and Jackie from Mysterious Galaxy in San Diego. Cathy Berner from Blue Willow Books in Houston. Every member of staff that I’ve had the privilege to work with at Vroman’s Bookstore in Pasadena. Thank you to Mark, Joy, and Cassie at Brazos Bookstore in Houston. Chelsea Maidhof and Bea and Leah Koch at The Ripped Bodice in Los Angeles. It takes an enormous village to get books into the hands of readers and you all ensure that that village is diverse, inclusive, and fun.
To my agency siblings, Jodi and Valerie, who have helped form my first bookish community. Thank you for being there when I needed. Thank you for all of your support.
To Emily, Austin, and Bridget—I’m about to sound a lot like Anne Shirley and say that I feel like I have found kindred spirits who love Jane Austen, Shakespeare, the cheesiest of action flicks, and the bawdiest of humor (see, I avoided saying “dick jokes” like a real lady). Thank you for all of your support as I rewatch The Mummy every fortnight. Also, thank you for being the kind of people who feel like home.
To the rest of the Electrics—Bree, Britta, Dana, Farrah, Lisa, Marie, Maura, Somaiya, Ash, Rachel, Tanaz—thank you for building communities across the city of Los Angeles and across the internet. We do such a solitary job and I feel like I have colleagues and community, despite the fact that I spend most of the time working alone. That is no mean feat—thank you so much for all that you are.
